Doug Shows is a HOFer compared to those clowns.

UNC basically got rec league 40 year-olds out there. We're gooooood

This made me laugh, especially since there really are people on here that think UNC is not good at basketball.

Their team is materially better than last year, and their team last year took what was probably the best team in AL history to 4OTs. Our team isn’t nearly as good as last year (especially if Trelly is out), and yet we think it’s a coin flip type game. I will say, Oats is getting major respect from Vegas.

Can we win? Sure…if we’re hot and/or they’re cold, or the ball just bounces our way. But MoD absolutely saved us from a heartbreaking loss to GCU, as he literally carried the team the last few minutes with multiple game changing plays (the break away block, multiple O-boards, put backs, 3-3 on FTs, and slash to the hoop to get the 5 footer in the middle). I truly believe we lose that game without his heroics.

The line is bouncing between 3.5-4.5 (partly on Trelly news), but you’d have to give me close to 8.5 and probably double digits if Trelly can’t go to put money on Bama. Vegas is respecting Oats over Hubert, but UNC is a veteran team that doesn’t need as much coaching. They’re 6th in the country on defense and still 16th on offense. They beat Duke at Cameron Indoor with the ACC championship on the line. These guys are very good, and it’s going to take one of our best games to beat them.

You’re absolutely correct. We are far and away the underdog here. Everyone on earth thinks we are going to get curb stomped. The talking heads have had a field day today with it. I hope our guys play possessed and do all they can. We may not be good enough but we can damn sure give it everything we have. We literally have nothing to lose, no one gave us a shot, we have overachieved big time. House money.

You're reading way too much into a game in November last year when Clowney and Miller were in their first month of college ball, and in which Clowney got injured and had to leave before the first media timeout.

Nah, that wasn’t meant for basketball peeps who understand the nuances. That was meant for people trying to say UNC isn’t as good as Bama this year, which literally makes zero sense by virtually all metrics. Our best win is probably AU at home, and UNC has arguably 5 wins better than that including Tenn at home and Clemson/Duke on the road.

Upsets happen, which I hope Thursday is one of those, but we’re not the better team. We just have to be the better team for 40 minutes on Thursday.

Boz said it well, house money for fans at this point. Hope we win, but UNC is being underrated by this board and Vegas IMO (note: the ACC got 80% of their 5 NCAAT teams into the sweet 16).

They definitely have better wins than us… however… they have a way of worse lose (GT).

I’m not saying we win Thursday but we have a legit chance to win especially if we get hot.

This is true, but a bad loss doesn’t typically correspond as well to circumstances in S16 and beyond. Things like overlooking your opponent (UNC beat Duke the very next game), true road game (it was at GT), middle of the season energy lull, etc. How you played against tough teams, particularly away from home, are generally better barometers of NCAA potential.

Still hoping we shoot lights out and have our best game of the season on Thursday!

I think there might be something to the conspiracy I saw on Reddit about how they were going to do this just because if they fired him Louisville would have him under contract within 24 hours.

So we're contacting a bunch of guys in the portal but Estrada is the only scholarship player who can't return. We got a lot of guys planning to peace out after the tourney?

Not wanting to put too much weight on the players' shoulders, but would you consider this upcoming game, should Alabama win, be the biggest in program history?

Yeah it’s going to happen every year, welcome to the new era of college basketball. Those are also just the guys that have been made public, I’m sure they’ve talked to more privately.

Probably safe to say top 2.

The 17 point comeback in the 2nd half to beat #1 seed Stanford followed by taking out the defending champ Syracuse to get to our only E8 back in 2004 was huge. There’s something to be said about feeling like this isn’t Oats’ only or even best chance. With Gottfried in ‘04, you knew it wasn’t repeatable due to his coaching limitations. I was a senior and remember thinking we may not do that again for a long time, and 20 years later I’m still waiting (hopefully for only 2 more days!!).

Would mind seeing a huge data project that keeps track of this stuff, see what the common facts are and signs that were ignored.
