I think we lost too many of our tough players. If we had the same bunch but had held onto Bediako and Bradley we’d be a much better team.

Thankfully we have a center and athletic wing coming in the recruiting class. I’d like to see us add a more physical, defensive guard through the portal if possible too. Griffin not making a jump this year has been disappointing.

I love it when folks come out of the woodworks after a loss.

They do it every time.

This team has too many flaws. Teams with big post players kill us.

Hoping we can win at least one game in the NCAA’s , looks doubtful but hope springs eternal.
Wrightsell disappointed me today, was expecting great things from him.

Ok, my honest thoughts are that the guard injuries to close out the year have our guys exhausted. Legs are just as important as eye discipline and form when it comes to shooting 3s. Our percentages have tanked because of the exhaustion. I told my dad pregame that I actually kinda wanted to lose tonight. We need the extra days of rest if we want any shot to make a tournament run. Get our legs and shot back.

We will see. But getting our legs and offensive firepower back is our only hope. This team just cannot defend. They don't communicate, they don't show consistent effort, and they just don't seem to understand defense. Its also the severe lack of high-end athletes. We don't have any hyper athletic dudes outside of Mo-D, and he can't shoot worth a lick.

I still like this team, but we are tired.

In the last 5 minutes of the first half, Florida went on a 21-2 run. We let a 10-0 run go before calling a TO. And we allowed the remaining 11-2 run to take place without calling another one.

Love Nate. We won the day by getting him locked up again. And you won't find me complain about anything else about him (okay maybe some occasional in-bounds problems). But for the love of God can we please be a little better with our timeout usage during runs? I get that he doesn't like how TOs slow down possessions, but letting these runs go have put us in some huge holes that completely change the outlook of these games.

Absolutely brutal luck in the draw. I would have rather played anyone else (UK, AU and UT included), as they have the perfect combination to have this roster in Hell, but we have to be better at the things we can control.

Golden has also given the blueprint to disrupt our offense in both of the last games. Play 2 bigs (which always leaves you with rim protection), switch everything, and don't leave perimeter players to help on drives. Leaves dump off passes wide open, but our bigs either can't catch the hot passes or don't gather and go up quick enough for it to matter.

The biggest problem in today's game is perimeter defense.
Additionally, the biggest problem this season is perimeter defense.
In fact, compare Bama perimeter defense with the opposing guards' perimeter defense in today's game. There is a very big difference here.

Gators - fg 50.8%, 3p 35%, ft 86.1%, 39reb, 9ast, 5stl, 4blk, 7tov, 22pf

Bama - fg 46.5%, 3p 24%, ft 69.6%, 35reb, 15ast, 3stl, 4blk, 8tov, 25pf

This or referencing FOGs seems to be a coping mechanism after a blowout loss around here for some reason

You shut down any actual attempt to discuss our shortcomings or possible issues before the game by calling people scared and then after the game this?

Just accept we didn't get coached well and our players didn't respond well

Haven’t read any game posts. But losing yesterday coukd be good for the NCAA tournament. Guards are obviously tired. So not playing today and tomorrow should help with that.

I would have signed up for a 4/5 and out conference record at beginning of year and certainly at the start of conference play.

Looking forward to where we get slotted. We are very matchup dependent I think. Fingers crossed.

And Roll Tide!!

We need more BSC members for sure.

The fact Bama will actually make the Dance is a big deal after the years of Grant and Avery.

March 15 - the middle or 'ides” of the month - is considered an unlucky date for people who believe in superstitions. Other unfortunate incidents over the years have helped cement that date as unlucky, forever placing it as a day of misfortune.

quote:

The No. 19/19 Alabama men's basketball team fell to Florida, 102-88, in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals Friday night in Bridgestone Arena.

The Crimson Tide (21-11) was led by Mark Sears' 22 points while Nick Pringle earned his second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Gators (23-10) were led by Walter Clayton Jr.'s 23 points including 11-11 shooting from the foul line.

Head Coach Nate Oats Postgame Comments
"This certainly was not the outcome we were expecting or hoping for. You have to give Florida a lot of credit, they played us very well in two games during the regular season. I thought we had a good start to the game, then they adjusted, and we lost the mentality to put them away early."

I can't help but think the constant harping on the defense has hurt us. The defense is what it is. I don't think most of our guys, the veterans anyway, are going to suddenly be better defenders. Our guards are small and unathletic, and we don't have a post defender.

I think it has gotten in their heads. They were at their best when they were outscoring everyone. They were trying on defense, but not hyper-focused only on that. This team is flawed, and that's ok. It really is a rebuilding year.

I also can't help but think against these big teams, we should press a lot more. We can't stop them in the half court anyway. Might as well try to turn them over

The perimeter defense is all about the quickness of the guards. The better teams, FL, TN, Aub, KY all have quicker guards than us. Plus, their quicker guards can defend our guards closer and make it hard to shoot the 3, or drive past them. John Wooden said quickness is the most important attribute for a basketball player. There is a big, well known tennis academy in FL. When new players arrive there, they look at foot speed and quickness and put the quickest and fastest in one group, and all the others in another group. They can teach anyone to hit a tennis ball, but they cant teach quickness and speed.

So...4 seed and second round exit?

Seriously... maybe we'll get a couple of favorable matchups and squeeze another Sweet 16 out of this group.

constant harping

While I don’t think our effort has been where it should be night in and night out, I think Coach’s public statements implying that lack of effort is the sole issue on defense are inaccurate. I think physical limitations and scheme issues are also clearly at play.

False!

It's been plenty of times in the past I spoke on our shortcomings.

The thing with me is...why continue beating on a dead horse? We know what we don't have...Adjust to what we do have. We can't change nothing now!

It's all about WANT to!

We didn't get out coached shoot guys just stop playing defense when shots wouldn't fall and on top of that Grant Nelson got in foul trouble in the first half...they went on a run because he was on the bench.

I don't hang with negative people nor dwell in negative energy.
