In theory, most would shy away from Samford in the 4/13 game. I think we’d cruise by 15+. They’re somewhat similar style to ours would eventually give way to our overall athleticism. They’d have no answer for Sears to the cup.
Yeah, Bucky deserves his praise but people are talking them up way too much. They've played two teams in the current Kenpom top 100, getting blown out by Purdue and losing by 10 to VCU.

I’m not so sure it matters in the long run. I just don’t want to play the Mormons in Salt Lake City in the 4/5 matchup

Being the lowest 4-seed is how we get shipped out to Spokane or Salt Lake. As the highest 5-seed, we’d probably get a decent location

Id prefer to avoid the 5/12 game at all costs though. 12 seeds are typically squads that would be in the tournament as a bubble team whereas 13s would not. In theory there is a gap between the 2

According to the NCAAs website, 12-seeds beat the 5-seed 35% of the time. 13-seeds only beat the 4 about 21%

I don't think there was a 5/12 upset last year
Could be wrong. Could mean it's due

5/12 upset

Anything can happen but this team has been fantastic at avoiding upsets. The lofty NET numbers all season have been due to pummeling NET 100 + teams and usually putting on offensive clinics against NET 35+ ones.

Problem has been with other Top25 teams.

Someone can look up past years later

Only thing I've seen, which isn't new:
quote:

Alabama's Rylan Griffen (calf) is hopeful to play in Friday's SEC Tournament game, but it won't be determined until later in the week, per Nate Oats.

"The MRI results were a lot better than they feared it might be. He's on a day-to-day basis right now."

With the Tide finishing in the top-four in the SEC this season, the staff aims to maximize his rest days before their matchup with either Missouri, Georgia, or Florida.

Guess we still won't know until closer to gametime, and I would imagine there's an outside chance he'd sit anyway if Florida were to somehow get upset (although he had 21 against Mizzou previously).

The absurdity of having eight and nine on the first and second team is laughable. The last two selected for the "second" team are actually the first two in the fourth team.

Technically, the loss at home to Tennessee was an upset. Not sure when the last time we even covered the point spread
ETA: Bama is 1-5 ATS the last 6 games.

Nate Oats Provides Injury Update on Rylan Griffen Ahead of SEC Tournament

Griffen missed Alabama's regular season finale against Arkansas with a calf injury after leaving the Florida game early.
quote:

"Rylan [Griffen] has not gone live yet, but he's doing more and more basketball activity every day," Oats said. "We're hopeful he could possibly play Friday. We'll put him through more stuff tomorrow and see how he responds. Could end up being a game-time decision."

OK one more reason having Latrell Wrightsell Jr. back and full-go is significant:

Per KenPom, he has the lowest turnover rate among Alabama players:

Wague: 25.0
Stevenson: 21.1
Estrada: 18.5
Griffen: 17.1
Sears: 15.7
Pringle: 15.2
Nelson: 14.8
Cosby: 12.8
Walters: 12.3
Dioubate: 11.1
Wrightsell: 10.2

In 32 of the last 38 years, the 12 seed has won at least one first round game. The only exceptions came in 1988, 2000, 2007, 2015, 2018 and 2022.

In 2019, three No. 12 seeds advanced to the second round: Murray State (beat Marquette), Oregon (beat Wisconsin) and Liberty (beat Mississippi State). The 12 seeds also won three games in 2013 and 2014.

Everyone acts like earning a 5 seed is a death sentence, but the stats don't back it up.
The winning percentage falls in line with the other seeds.

Since 1985, when the field expanded to 64 teams.....

SEED VS. SEED. W-L PCT.
1 vs. 16 150-2 .987
2 vs. 15 141-11 .928
3 vs. 14 130-22 .855
4 vs. 13 120-32 .789
5 vs. 12 99-53 .651
6 vs. 11 94-58 .618
7 vs. 10* 92-59 .609
8 vs. 9 74-78 .487

Is this to replace or supplement the “unofficial” NIL program they’ve had up there for 50 years?
