fans tend to forget that 99% of qb's require time to develop. Alabama fans are particularly prone to overlook this fact because of the past 10 years. So Milroe requires development - he's going to make a lot of mistakes. but clearly he's the best the've got. So saban puts the other qb's out there in a real game and let's the fans see what he sees. besides, some guys are gamers - they might not practice as well as they play.

Now, he's taken a lot of fan pressure of Milroe. He can make him the guy and fans won't be hollering to replace him.

brilliant.

Thought the same. This was Saban's big frick U to Bama fans and media. He was willing to lose that game too but knew that wasn't going to happen with a very serviceable Bama D.

Milroe got a nice day off. That's all it was.

Bama will do fine. They may go 8-4 but with this year's unit, that's not bad.

You know, I'm not sure if you're being serious, but I thought the same thing. He wasn't going to let them lose but he wanted to show them that he picked Milroe for a reason. He was say NOW do you see what I was doing? I think if Jalen Milroe pays the whole game Bama wins by 4 towchdowns.

Milroe is a dynamic player and will hurt a lot of SEC teams feelings this year.

He’s taken the heat off Milroe from the fans, but he’s yet to show that him or Rees know how to actually use Milroe. We’ll see what he does with the OM game.

Under the right system, Milroe would flourish. Bama’s system isn’t it. So do they tweak the offense to highlight his skill set or keep trying to put a square peg in a round hole?

We've heard Milroe has had the locker room behind him, but fans and the media have criticized him mightily after the Texas loss. This South Florida debacle should shut up the Milroe criticism. After all, the offensive line is the biggest problem for all these qb's

He could put AJ McCarron out there and he would struggle behind this offensive line.

However, Milroe’s picks against Texas were actually when he had some time to throw. One he just stared down the receiver and made it easy for the DB.

The biggest issue is OL. They were bad last year, re-tooled the OL and now even look worse.

I think you're right and I think it was intentional but I don't think it will work out like he thinks it will.

Alabama has a lot of problems if USF plays you that tight. Ain't just the qb

It’s a risky strategy to publicly demonstrate to your backup quarterbacks that you think they suck and “look how bad it could be if we play these turds” seems like a way to prolong the suffering in Tuscaloosa.

Bama fans just assumed the next Tua/Mac/Jalen/Bryce was on the roster and they were being forced to watch someone else play. Milroe is an average starting SEC qb and still your best option. Sometimes reality is underwhelming.

The problem with this idea is that Buchner was the transfer QB Bama chose to go after.

Not Sam Hartman, Devin Leary, Spencer Sanders, Kedon Clovis, or any of the 30 or so QB's with higher transfer grades.

Showing that decision sucked and that the guy already on the roster was a better choice isn't exactly a great thing. It shows Bama made a bad decision in the transfer market more than showing that Milroe is good.

That's a reasonably astute observation there OP.

You may very well be correct.

At least Saban has enough balls to move his QBs around to find the correct one. He brought in the then freshman Tua on a last minute play that won the national championship.

Heupel would never have the guts to do that. He will go down sinking completely with Milton like Pruitt did with JG.
