I have one, exactly one playcalling question that has me scratching my head.

It was right before the first missed field goal.

We were 3rd and goal, but from the 15ish yard line.

We run a tunnel screen.

That play, if successful, is an 8 yard play. Especially in the red zone when you can't stretch DB's vertically. When you have 15 yards to gain, that play call doesn't make sense.

The only thing I can think of is Bobo thought were were in 4th down territory, so called a 3rd down play that would get us closer, to make it more 4th and Manageable as they say. Then on 4th, Kirby vetoe'd him and said no, let's just try for 3. That's the only way that 3rd down play call makes sense.

I post this concern, not to be a cvnt, but because I want to be educated. I want to learn.

The missed FG wasn't Bobo's fault, it was just a cherry on top of the turd sundae of a call he just made on 3rd down.

We did it on severalthird downs.

Third downs in key situations and we throw the ball at the line of scrimmage with unblocked defenders in front of the play. We were 0 for 3.

I understand that we don't trust our OL against a blitz, yet. But to choose not to have routes that reach the sticks is tough to swallow when it happens over and over and fails to convert.

USC called the same play from the same spot and caught us in a blitz and in man and scored a TD. Granted they were holding, but still.

I agree about that tunnel screen call but consider SC's first TD. They ran their screen play on a long third and goal when we were blitzing and it worked like a charm.

I would like to see Beck more aggressive and more in rhythm. Maybe we will see that down the road. Beck has the ability to do much more.
