The difference is with the transfer portal its harder to develop talent. Coaches have to be willing to change lineups to find the best GameDay players. You win now or lose your best recruits to the portal. If Bama, Mississippi, Auburn, Georgia can switch QBs to find the best GameDay player then there is no reason for Drink to dig in and sacrifice play.

I think he is afraid of losing. When Saban switched to Tua over Hurts he knew that was his best chance of winning. I don’t think early in his career he would have done that. He had the confidence in his decision even if Tua would have lost he would still have the support from the AD and the fans. He makes his decisions to win.

Drink wouldn’t do that because he is afraid of making a bad decision and it costing him the game
