Losing Scott Cochran wasn't the blessing that Bama fans predicted.

In 2017 and 2019 our players were dropping like flies.

And Scott Cochran has absolutely nothing to do with S & C at Georgia. Or your 4th quarter program. So what exactly is this great advantage you speak of?

So did Jeremy Pruitt. And his style was much more simple and aggressive than Smart's. Which has BAMA fans still longing for 2017.
I would think after the past couple of years Alabama fans are longing for anything from 2011 to 2016.

Golding also coached ILBers and you will see a huge improvement in the middle of our defense this season.

I expect to see a big improvement in your overall defense if you go back to a run based offense, as has been predicted. Pass happy offense almost always struggle defensively.

Because they can't blame BOB for that too.

Because he was the DC and his playcalls/scheme sucked

I didn't say a great advantage.

I said that Bama went to a completely new S&C program after Cochran.

Bama's performances on the offensive and defensive lines may have had questionable performances since then.

Maybe because...

Saban in 10 seasons with Kirby or Pruitt as DC: National titles 5, top 5 scoring defense 8 times.

The poster was responding to a statement that if the defense was bad, it was Saban's fault and not the DC. If that were the case, then Saban should get the credit for Kirby and Pruitt's defenses. I don't think Bama fans agree with either statement, the DC is important when the defense is good and is also responsible when the defense is bad.

Either way, we'll see if Alabama's defense is better under Steele and if Ole Miss's defense is better under Golding.

Because he had absolutely no idea of how to adjust in game, no idea of how to communicate his philosophy from the chalkboard to the field, and no ability to gain any of his players’ respect. He was a slack jawed drunk idiot who had no business anywhere near a major college football program. And yes, Coach Saban should have fired him a long time ago.

An example of how he was as a defensive coordinator; from 2008-2018, Alabama was 2nd in the nation in 4th down defense. From 2019-2022, Alabama was 42nd in 4th down defense. His defense could not make stops when needed, and fed off stopping teams with significantly less talent.

There is no better (or worse, depending on how you view it) game that epitomized his absolute ineptness as the Tennessee game last year. He never was able to adjust, and allowed TN wrs to run free all day.

I have no idea why UGA fans think this. Saban had been putting heat on Cochran for 2 years to modernize the S&C program and he just couldnt do it. Why bc all he knew how to do was copy and paste Tommy Moffits program from LSU. Once he realized his job was in jeopardy he went to Saban and asked for a on the field job. Saban said no....End of story.

I respect Kirby for throwing his BF a bone and giving him a enrtry level on the field job.

The question is if Bama's strength and conditioning is better now than with Cochran.

Did the transition help the team?

Cochran is a huge "glue" guy for our program. We have a few of them. They are needed with the way that Kirby runs practices.

I’ll make it simple.

1. Pete’s in game adjustments were dog shite. He could never catch on. Ever.

2. His blitz packages were dog shite. He sent obvious easily picked up blitz packages.

3. ILB development was dog shite. His program implemented by HIM was terrible and set back our stud class 3 years.

That’s it.

I think the best answer is its what Saban wanted. I think the new guy does a much better job of taking bad weight off of guys and adding size to hard gainers.

Did the transition help the team?

Well for sure dont think it hurt. In 202o they won the natty. In 2021 they won the SECC and played for the natty but the 2021 and 2022 groups were the worst LOS teams of the Saban era.

I think 2023 is the first year the new guy has had the same type of toys to mold that Cochran did.

He should have been told to find another job after Hellums gave up the 2nd TD vs Hyatt in the UTjr game
