Big10 will get all primetime viewership on the local channels.
How many black recruits who come from low income families you think pay for cable packages and internet streaming? This deal limits SEC exposure and will kill recruiting particularly for the middle and lower SEC schools. The parity in the conference will take a major hit as recruiting will shift to the B1G as they get more primetime exposure on channels that everyone has

ABC will carry at least one SEC football game per week, including some on Saturday Night Football, and also air the SEC Championship Game.

You misread my quote. That could be any ABC game. Hell I think they even split it up regionally sometimes in the Big Ten NFL style. I’m talking about the prime time ABC game at 7.

Almost none of these games are actually 4k feeds. They're upscaled 1080p and 720p videos.

We will see how all these contracts go in the next few years. This all has the feel of pre- 2008 mortgage lending with these numbers. Personally, I think the contraction is coming sooner than later.
I think SEC will keep its strength due to still having a regional identity, but also because too many of these bloated leagues are going down a bad path with non-equal revenue splits.
That latter just does not set up a conference for success and injects all sorts of bad blood for future bitterness. Just look at all the trouble the 3/5ths compromise has caused the US as the years have come and gone.

B1G went East with Maryland and Rutgers (not exactly Top 10 football schools) because B1G produces lots of living alumni and lots of those alumni settle down on the East Coast for employment and rising a family.

My understanding is there is an escalator clause for adding two teams, it is an equal share to the new members. The sticking point is ESPN doesn’t want to pay additional money for rights to a 9th conference game (more inventory/more premium matchups) the SEC won’t go to 9 games unless ESPN sweetens the pot for the additional game.
Also the escalator clause was just an equal share, whereas national brands like Texas and OU were thought might get more than just an equal share. That is why we Sankey and the universities are being hard assess on the 9th game negotiations. We probably won’t see it until 2026 and that assumes ESPN/Disney want those rights.

Fox films at 1080p and upscales to 4K but uses HDR. ESPN films and broadcasts at 4K but doesn’t use HDR. Not all broadcasts by either company are in 4k. In addition only certain providers have the rights to provide a 4K broadcast to their customers. On the streaming side, YouTubeTV and Fubo are the ones to get for 4K.

I said three years ago, losing CBS was beyond dumb. Their production run’s circles around ESPN.
Plus you never put all your eggs in one basket.

CBS offered such great exposure for the SEC. And the quality of their broadcasts was second to none.

I don’t think leaving CBS for our tier one rights was dumb. They didn’t want to pay what they were worth. They then panicked and bought tier 2 rights with the big 10 for more than what we were asking for out tier - rights, that’s dumb by them, good move by the B1G. In addition CBS still hasn’t produced a single game in 4K and doesn’t look like they will anytime soon.
So essentially we swapped our SEC 3:30 CBS game of the week for what will be a Prime time ABC game of the week for more money ($300m) than CBS was willing to pay. I think that’s a pretty damn good move. ABC/ESPN own the media rights for the playoffs through 25/26, Sec 100%, ACC 100%, and Big 12 60%. Who do you think I’d going to get all the air time and talking points?
I think the really stupid move was the B1G completely abandoning ESPN. It is by far the biggest voice in sports and college football. The B1G stories on ESPN will be far and few between going forward with the focus on SEC, ACC, and Big 12 football during football season and ACC/SEC during the basketball season. The new SEC/ACC basketball challenge will only elevate SEC basketball more.

Population is a 2010 driver that's been mostly abandoned by the media. The new driver is individual game ratings - what a team draws. What I find very odd is that both the horns and sooners are good draws and accretive to the SEC average and yet the league gets no more money (per team) for the additions.

Maryland/Rutgers wasn't about advertising or viewers, it was about attaching the BTN to basic cable. Texas and Oklahoma combined, on average, generate more viewers annually than USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon combined

Speak for yourself. You are spoiled rotten. You could be living with Jefferson Pilot and PPV. Before that, generations got Pick of Dixie games on their transistor radios.
ABC with Herbie and Fowler blows Gary Danielson out of the water. They've been doing a great job covering playoff and NC games. ABC and ESPN have all the biggest games and will continue to excel with the new 16-member SEC.
Get over the money. It wasn't going in your pocket anyway. The best games and wildest stadiums will be the SEC. Not just because it always has but Oklahoma and Texas are going to create some incredible matchups going forward with all the other stuff going on.
Get over Danielson dude. Storytime is over, finally, mercifully.
