Nicole Deboer to be named head softball coach after this season.

... she's a softball coach?

I feel like you're trolling me.

based on the fact she threw a perfect strike to the catcher to kickoff the most recent bama softball coach she can do it. Keep the current Bama pitching coach, hire a hitting coach and she should be set. Her first recruit is her daughter.

Does anyone know if the Deboer daughter is going to join the team? Thought I read she was going to be on Washington's team and was a fairly high rated recruit.

Bats woke up and put up 8 runs in the first inning. Our highest BA player is L johnson and she is not in the lineup. Everyone's BA is going up tonight

I remember reading, on this site, I think, that she signed in December, 2023.

I don't believe nothing he says concerning Mrs. DeBoer.

Greg Byrne would hire the best up and comer for sure.

We still haven't played a team with a pulse offensively or pitching wise. I can't wait to see how this team takes shape.

Alabama softball opened action at the Green & Gold Classic on Friday with a pair of wins, defeating tournament host UAB, 8-0, in five innings before beating Western Carolina, 4-1.

Alabama (13-0) started off the day with a bang, scoring eight runs in the first inning against UAB (5-7), including Jenna Johnson's first home run of the season. With the score the same in the bottom of the fourth, the Blazers drew three walks to load the bases with nobody out, but the Crimson Tide erased the threat with a strikeout and 1-2-3 double play. With Alex Salter in relief in the circle in the bottom of the fifth, a 1-4-3 double play ultimately ended the ballgame and secured the run-rule shutout.

In game two against Western Carolina (2-3), a pair of singles from Bailey Dowling and Lauren Johnson drove in three runs before the Catamounts got one back off a sac fly RBI in the top of the fourth. A Marlie Giles RBI single added some insurance in the fifth inning but Alea Johnson pitched 2.0 shutout relief innings to close the door and earn her first save of the season.

Eight Tide players drove in at least one RBI between the two games, with Jenna Johnson leading the pack with three off her first inning home run against UAB. Kenleigh Cahalan was 3-for-6 on the day with four others earning two hits. In the circle, Kayla Beaver (4-0) took home the win against the Blazers while Jaala Torrence (5-0) got the win against the Catamounts and Alea Johnson earned the save.

Good start to the season. It will be interesting to see how we play against ranked/SEC teams. This is a well written article by Kim Rankin. Someone once said easy reading is hard, vile writing and Kim is easy to read. Keep up the good work Kim, you are appreciated.

Good news. Our bats are heating up. The BA so far over the 4 games has gone up to 324 from 297 and 9 of our main players are batting over 290. The leader of the bunch is a freshman. Lauren Johnson.

Alabama softball's bats remained hot in Sunday's finale at the Green & Gold Classic, as the Crimson Tide blasted four home runs en route to a 15-0 run rule shutout over tournament host UAB.

Alabama (16-0) scored three runs in both the first and second innings against UAB (6-9) before breaking the game open with a seven-run third to make it a 13-0 game. A fifth-inning home run from Marlie Giles, her second of the game, pushed the lead to its ultimate final tally of 15-0. Five different players had multi-hit performances, led by a 3-for-4 day from Abby Duchscherer with a career-best five RBIs. Duchscherer got the scoring started with a first inning home run, one of four long balls hit by the Tide along with a pinch-hit homer from Kendal Clark and two homers from Giles, a third-inning solo shot and the two-run home run in the fifth inning. Kenleigh Cahalan was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs and Jenna Johnson was 2-for-2 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot. Jaala Torrence (6-0) got the win in the circle, with Alea Johnson and Alex Salter combining for 3.0 shutout relief innings behind her.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"First I have to say thanks to all the fans in Birmingham. We had great crowds all weekend and I can't thank them enough for coming out to watch college softball. Today was just the icing on the cake. We had four home runs, hit the ball all over the place, played great defense and got three pitchers time in the circle, which was our plan heading into the game. It was just a great day all around."

Murph gets a lifetime contract if he takes this team to the natty. A lot of new faces and new coaches. And their best hitter right now is a freshman in Lauren Johnson.

Seems like the best hitter early in the season is always a freshman. Like Cahalan last season. But then they become victims of lack of development and no actual hitting coach and start to suck like all our other hitters.

For those in the Jacksonville State area, Bama plays JSU Wednesday at 5 pm. A good opportunity to catch the ladies in action locally. The team returns to Tuscaloosa this weekend to compete in the Crimson Classic (Thursday/Friday/Saturday).
