The man certainly knows how to put together a staff.

Mizzou had a huge advantage over both Nebraska and OU back then because they integrated sooner.
Also Devine only won 1 Big 8 title on the field.

Saban got LSU going.

I'd give Paul Dietzel a long look.

That isn't true. Nebraska integrated in 1952. OU and Missouri integrated in about 1957. Your statement about them winning only one "on the field" is a fair statement.

Shug Jordan (1951-1975): 175-83-7 (.674 pct), 1 SEC title, 1 National Title

Pat Dye (1981-1992): 99-39-4 (.711 pct), 4 SEC titles

I'm probably not qualified to wade too deeply into this one, but I do think Jordan had a distinct disadvantage with Bryant being there for the majority of his tenure.

Dye really only caught him there at the very end, and primarily faced off against Perkins/Curry/Stallings (both on the field and in recruiting).

Allyn McKeen and Dan McGugin are two names I have never heard before.

McKeen was MSU coach from 1938 to 1949. 78-25-3 record including a SEC championship in 1941 and 1940 undefeated team with orange bowl victory

Jackie had retired after the 2000 season, I'd agree. But alas, we have 01-03.

Hell considering the strength of the SEC west during his tenure you could make an argument for Mullen. Jackie was great don’t get me wrong but the SEC west fricking sucked during the late 90s

I wish Mike Leach hadn’t passed I would have liked to seen a 8-10 tenure with him

Devine left for the NFL. So did Saban and Spurrier. Is that bailing?

Is Gary the best Mizzou has ever had? No conference championships at Mizzou? Be like Houston Nutt being Arkansas best all time

That’s almost like naming a court after a guy with 1 Elite 8

Spurrier may be the most beloved and he had a longer tenure but two nattys is better than one.

Who else has a coach who coached for them on the board but not as the one for their team.

Frank Broyles coached at Missouri

You could argue that Saban’s success fed into Miles’ success at least enough to give Saban the edge, and you wouldn’t be wrong.

Went to Tuscaloosa in 2001 for Rohan to Reed game. I was at the Houndstooth after the game drinking with some Bama fans. They said we’ll never have a coach like Nick Saban.

For Mizzou, Devine is obviously better than Pinkel, but maybe they meant the school had to be SEC at the time so Devine wouldn't be eligible?

Jackie Sherrill deserves to be on that list somewhere.
