I worked with a guy in Dallas that was an absolute clone of the this character.

My sister-in-law has it. She's medicated for it, so normally she is fine to be around, but you can really tell when she misses her doses. It's not pretty.
It's incredibly difficult to treat. So much so that until very recently there wasn't much you could do to help someone with it. Now there's DBT, and meds but someone with borderline personality disorder has to put in a lot of work to get themselves better and it's not at all easy on them or anyone within 100 miles of them.
The problem also is very few places can even give a patient DBT. I'm sure someone like Manziel could find a placement but it's an incredibly tough illness to deal with and very often people with borderline personality disorder have other issues that are co-morbid.

He was never offered by Texas to play QB.

Awesome documentary. Never felt like he could play QB in the NFL. He was Fran Tarkington on a Tom Brady League. Game is too structured and defenses are too fast. Always wanted him to just be Johnny Football, have a manning-like camp and just exist in a fairy tale type of life. Loved him so much as a freshman and hated what he became as a sophomore. Joy was just gone. Totally feel like I understand it now.
Just be Johnny Football and it will work out for you young man.

I'm really tired of freaking everyone these days using Bipolar Disorder to excuse their horrid behavior. He was a guy with a lot of talent and had a chance that most who play football only dream of having. And he blew it.
I appreciate where you are coming from, and I don't excuse anything he did, but I'm just going to repeat that if you have had any personal experience with bipolar disorder you know that it is a God awful emotional disorder. It is extremely difficult to live with, whether it's you or the people in your circle. It's damn near impossible to live with someone who has it. And the tendency is to take the easy route, back away and just let them run wild, which is apparently what was done in his case, from his parents, friends and coaches. Perfect storm.

Fact.
Manziel and RG3 were both recruited by Mack Brown to play safety.
To think what other Heisman winning QBs were hiding in the Texas secondary that never got their chance.

What ever happened to Uncle Nate? Anyone know? Is he still in touch with Manziel?

Tried to feel bad for him, but almost every time he spoke he seemed like a douche
