These are still student athletes trying to get a degree. Imagine having a major outside the traditional business, marketing or sports medicine and flying from USC to Rutgers. I had a roommate on football team trying to make it through engineering school. It was rough for him and that was well before conference expansion. For those athletes with no delusions of playing at the next level, at some point have to wonder whether it’s worth it.

If the non-revenue sports wanted to compete in football conferences, but the schools decided they were going to be practical and keep the who-gives-a-shite-sports in a hyper-regional conference playing the Illinois's and SIU's all the time, everyone would be bitching because they were not getting the special attention that the football team gets.

so if a kid flies from USC to Rutgers once every two years, it will impede him getting his degree?
