I don't remember the SEC prior to 12 teams but 12 was the sweet spot. Felt like we played everyone with semi regularity.
Mizzou is a doormat and never gets me excited and we have played A&M once so I don't even really think of them

Mizzou has had what, 43 drafted since 2000??? What a great accomplishment.

I was fine with 10.
12 allowed SEC championship game.
14 made the divisions bigger.
16 is stretching the league.
South Carolina is certainly South and East.
Arkansas is right on top of Louisiana.
Those were good additions to me.
Most games drivable.
A&M and Mizzou stretched the borders.
Oklahoma and Texas are historically great teams.
It is weird not playing Florida every year. And not opening conference play most years with Tennessee.
I guess Georgia game will be scaled back to rotate more opponents. I doubt they sacrifice the Iron Bowl to expansion.

I think it's because most people here just look at where South Carolina is, and assume. The state of South Carolina is different. And then Clemson is different even from that.
South Carolina ... the Carolinas for that matter ... are several different cultures in a very, very tight spot. You've got the Mid Atlantic stuff. The incredibly preachy Baptist stuff. And then the Gamecocks.
It's always been that way. Something in the DNA of the Carolinas.
We call it The Upstate, The Midlands/Piedmont and The Lowcountry.
We call it mustard based vs vinegar based vs tomato based ... SC is the historical home of BBQ in this country. Look it up.
We call it Loyalists vs Patriots.
We call it Firing the First Fricking Shots. We never surrendered ... our Lumbee Indians especially.
We call it The Holy City for a reason. We're far more Lutheran, Methodist and Presbyterian in this state than we are Baptist, ScoggDog.
Our Capital's catch phrase is literally "Famously Hot." Lou said it was the hottest place on earth ... and he still wore a v neck sweater at summer practices.
Paul Dietzel, Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier all left here saying they'll love us forever.
We're true Southerners ... although we're fightin' the transients and carpet baggers like all of us down here are these days.
You're right though, we're just different.
We'll get'er done in the long run 'cause that's all we know how to play ... is the long game.
BTW, the Civil War is not over, it's just halftime.
The SC vs sheep humping sister bangers rivalry is not a football rivalry ... it's a politcal rivalry. That's what few understand and most don't (you can look it up) and THAT'S why the sheep humping sister bangers would have been a horrible fit for the SEC.
Finally ... when Paul Dietzel took us out of the ACC he did it for a good reason. He said we were better suited for the SEC one day and he'd help get us there and he was right, he did. He played a major role. God Bless that man. Vince Dooley said he voted against Clemson and that they were NEVER invited. Jeremy Foley said Arnsparger gave him the mission of lobbying for SC over FSU and then, when it finally ended-up being SC it was Foley who walked is through the process before officially being named the AD at Florida. Johnny Majors said he didn't want Clemson, they didn't bring anything to the table and they were too close to Knoxville as the crow flies. Johnny Vaught said he was so impressed with Gamecock fans every time he visited here (not as coach) ... that when Kramer asked him what he though he said SC is the most natural fit of the bunch.
This was meant to be.

South Carolina is the rival Mizzou wishes it could be.
I mean shite, who does Mizzou consider a rival.. Kansas? Yikes.

2. South Carolina - For the life of me, I can't figure them out. They are an ACC-lite school (meaning, they pale in comparison to your overt ACC schools - Virginia, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Duke (basically, any school that values lacrosse and basketball over football and baseball)). I don't hate having them here, but for whatever reason, I still think Clemson is a better "cultural fit" for the SEC.
One of the worst summaries I've read on here and that's saying something.

It's a shame so many of you "football guys" don't know who Corby Jones, was.

As a Tennessee fan I was a fan of our brief annual series with Arkansas back at the initial start of SEC expansion in the 90s/early 2000s. Excellent and nationally relevant games some of those battles were
