I don't know much other than what Surge mentioned in passing over the last few years.
He acknowledged a lot of his health issues were due to his smoking. He was a gym rat, but admitted he smoked way too much.
He recently had an undisclosed surgery, but he did say it was serious enough that he may not make it through it. He did though.
I know he had a stroke at one point as well.
I have a way to reach out to one of his sons, but I have been hesitant to do so because it may weird him out. Saying your dad and I were internet buddies is a strange way to start a conversation.

I don't think younger kids would feel so.
My son has made great friends online all over the country.
He's in his 20s. Me in my 50s may think like you.

Managing to break that habit is probably the best thing I've ever done for myself.
