The SEC fans still dont get it. Texas will come in and run shite whether you like it or not. It's about money, and they have more than you. They will run/ruin the SEC before you realize it. Over here we've seen it time and time again. It's an old tale.

No what y'all don't get is that for Texas entire history they've been asked to prop up every other institution in the state of Texas.

The SWC was Texas, Rice, SMU, TCU, Baylor, Houston, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Arkansas. That is 8 out of 9 schools being from ONE state, ONE... 4 of those schools are private schools. That isn't sustainable and Arkansas saw that, had very little to do with Texas being some big bad bully.

Big 12 was formed out of necessity between two conferences that didn't necessarily want to merge but also didn't really have much of an option. That proved to be true when by the late 2000s it became every man for themselves.

Texas isn't going to run shite in the SEC and I don't think they want to. No disrespect to Texas Tech but Texas just got tired of looking at the home schedule every year and seeing TCU and Tech as its marquee home games with the exception of the OOC home and home with Notre Dame, LSU, USC, and Alabama.

Of course conference realignment is about money but Texas gains more tradition than they lose with this move. Arkansas and Texas A&M are much bigger rivals historically for Texas than Texas Tech on down. That being said the gap in money will shrink greatly once Texas officially joins the SEC. In the Big 12 Texas was the Jones', in the SEC they will be one of many of them.

What’s funny is 2024, all the Big 12 teams will be glued watching you guys (and OU) bc you’re success (if any) will validate that they don’t suck. The Baylor365 guys are so obsessed with this. It’s kinda wild.

I’ve never heard the “Texas wants to control everything” debate from this angle, and you may have a point. Basically, you owned up to it and admitted Texas had to be the alpha in the house because they were the sole breadwinner for so long in a huge house full of orphans they adopted.

There is nothing in college football history quite like the imbalance of the old SWC. A one state plus Arkansas conference that politically forced a blue blood like Texas to prop up and subsidize virtually any Texas institution who had an alum in the legislature. Then when the imbalance got so absurd that a crash was inevitable, they merge with the Big 8 to save that conference, Nebraska couldn’t handle having to compromise on anything, and Texas got the blame.

This is the first time Texas has ever been in a conference that wouldn’t collapse or have to significantly alter their identity without them.

We always heard that Arkansas got tired of having 8 out of 9 refs being from one state too.
