To be fair, I feel like there were fewer bowl games in the mid 90s and there were only a handful in the 50s.

There were but as Fiutak notes, Oklahoma’s repeat holds the dubious honor of only facing 4 teams in 2 years that finished with a winning record (including only 1 team in 1955 that had more than 4 wins)
