PSA: This isn't a troll attempt or me trying to trigger anyone.

But what happened last year? You guys literally had the best roster ever assembled in the history of CFB on paper, a chip on your shoulder for not getting it done in 2021 and no turnover at the coordinator positions. With the undisputed GOAT leading the ship.

As I said I'm not trying to troll but I am genuinely curious to hear from you guys as to why last season went awry.

Also I'm excited to see your defense be revitalized under KS.

Thankful SEC media days and football are on the horizon so we can stop seeing these "what happened" posts 5+ months after the conclusion of the season

-We didn't have a deep threat at WR like we did the previous years and Bryce can only do so much. We were lucky it wasn't worse.

-Golding called the most head scratching schemes I've seen.

-The other teams were just better that day/night and tip my cap to them.

-holding my breath that the defense will get better, but at this point i will be happy if the stupid penalties decreased. That killed a lot of our momentum the last few years. We were about to get off the field on a 3rd down stop only to have an unnecessary roughness call or a late hit on the QB. Happened way more than i cared for

So the loss of ONE wideout lost you the game in 2021.

And ONE coach overruled sabah in their quest for 2nd in the west.

Got it.

Yeah I remember this being the case several times against UTjr and Texas. I think this is the biggest reason people think Saban has started slipping.

No, but the loss of both wideouts, a starting center, and both cornerbacks since the SECCG did.

The OP asks, what happened last year? Did you miss it?

Well...obviously Pete Golding. Defense never seemed to have that killer instinct.

AND

Our OL. It is apparent that we missed on OL evals from 2019-2021. The very fact that we took a Vandy transfer and he started day 1 at LT is telling. While Steen was a good player, that never should have happened. There was a stat that Alabama had something like 50% (I may be off) of our run plays went for 0 or negative yards.

Compared to UGA and the Bama dynasty re 2009-2017: 2022 they were soft and poorly coached. I don't think Bama fans really disagree.

In addition to not having "that guy" on the field (or the locker room) last season, the WR corps across the board failed to produce, as evidenced by four of them transferring since — AHC/WR coach Holmon Wiggins has stated as much.

There were also various additional reasons as mentioned herein, but in that offense, the significance of not having a Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, Calvin Ridley, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith, or even a Jameson Williams cannot be overstated.

The last time that Bryce Young walked off the field against the Vols and purple people BAMA had the lead.

We were a pass-first team and we turned ourselves into a finesse team that had a ridiculously talented defense chasing all season.

Pete Golding sticking around for 5 years that Nick Saban will never get back in his career is just amazing.

Too many bad evals at OL and the front 7 on D. the fact that Totoo was a 2 year starter at ILB is just embarrassing

With the exception of 2020. BAMA was more physical that season on offense and ran the ball in the money zone and short yardage. They were in double tight-end formations a lot of the time and gave Mac Jones all day to do his play-action and full-read progressions.

In any case, even then our defense was chasing elite offenses all season. Pete Golding chased Ole Miss, all night. Pete Golding chased Florida, all night. They chased Ohio State. BAMA was just so balanced and talented on offense, we continued to overcome it for the NC.

Bryce is the only reason Bama didn't have 4+ losses on the season...

IDK about 4+, but otherwise unfortunately probably true.

Very frustrating to watch him play hero ball for a majority of the season, and actually quite amazing when you consider what he was able to accomplish.

Meanwhile LSU fans think a 50-30 loss is moving in the right direction
