Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.

They already sunk the GOP with the abortion stuff. It hurt worse last election than Trump's dumb arse picks.

I think he's dead wrong, probably for different reasons than most.
This is may be true in certain situations, but does anyone believe you can compromise with modern progressives on a host of issues? Their idea of compromise is full and total acceptance of their terms.

Because leftists are much more willing to compromise than Christians.

Yes
Christians rejected individualist doctrine for puritan doctrine. You cannot legislate your morality based on your opinion.
For some reason, many think the sins of their fellow citizens carry more weight than they do.

Mark my word, if and when these rabbis get control of the party, and they're trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Jews believe they are the chosen people of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.

I don't know about Goldwater, but the Democrats were right in 1964.
They said if people voted for Barry Goldwater, we'd end up in a war in Southeast Asia.
Over 27,000,000 people voted for Barry Goldwater.
And we ended up in a war in Southeast Asia.

I like Goldwater and I'm not sure of this context, my belief is this quote is out of context for whatever political point you want to gaslight us on.
How and why is abortion specifically a "religous" issue? Are Christians demanding that the babies that they want to save be baptized and sent to Christian boarding school?
Or is your argument that people with a Christian, Biblical worldview would therefor believe it is right to protect innocent children, and to use the levers of government or the community to ensure children are protected?
All laws are created and passed based on the general morality of one's culture or society. That can be based on a Christian world view, an Islamic worldview, an Atheistic/humanist/secular worldview. But abortion isn't specifically a "religious" subject. Howwvee, one's views on the morality would certainly be affected by one's religion.

The problem with compromise isn’t on the right.
Creeping socialism means any compromise with marxists moves them one step closer to their goal of equal misery for everybody. We’ve seen with social security, food stamps, welfare, and now obamacare that there’s no rolling back marxism, so no compromise with marxists can be allowed.
There is no such thing as creeping conservatism.

It's the left that has descended into religious zealotry like climate change and wokeism.

Biggest mistake the voting public ever made was electing LBJ instead of Goldwater in 1964.
Yes he was right. He made that statement when Falwell and Baker were running around DC.

About a lot of stuff, yeah.
About this particular issue, hell no.

Seems one "side" has been compromising quite a lot, because this nation has been on a steady leftward slide for decades, despite holding the White House and Congress numerous times.

This is partially true. The right embraced the "moral majority" Christian thing. These people were on the fainting couch over every little thing from rock n roll to video games. All of this left a bad taste in the mouth of many Gen Xers who then rejected the right and therefore raised the following generations to go even further left. It's certainly part of how we ended up on the losing end of the culture war.

I rode the Senate subway with Barry. I was pretty young at the time. He poked my stomach with his cane and asked me how I was.
Barry lived in a different time. He couldn’t conceive of the cultural onslaught we’re facing.
