I think the more likely outcome is that they simply...don't. Every fan base has it's out-of-touch-with-reality members - if none of you have visited Tiger Rant the day after a loss (or sometimes, after a win) then I suggest it. Highly entertaining watching the melt after a loss or the manic highs after a good game.

aTm has been in the league for 10 years now and, to the rational person, it didn't take long for them to realize that it's not all sunshine and roses with big TV deal payouts in the SEC - yet the irrational persists in the fan base. Last summer was a good example, all the big talk based on the recruiting class, etc - and the irrational persisted on into the 2-month losing streak. LSU fan started seeing the possibility of winning the West and making the CFP in year one of Brian Kelly, and got irrational - myself included.

Being irrational is part of being a fan.

Now on the rational level, the biggest blow to "Texas," as an institution, is the abject failure of the Longhorn Network. If there is any one thing that points out their "lack of specialness," it's that a TV channel dedicated to nothing but them failed miserably, causing the conference they (along with OU) once controlled to dissolve - to the point that for them to return to prominence and get the benefit of the doubt vote into a playoff, they had to leave the conference they destroyed and join the SEC.

So, in a way, Texas joining the SEC - and PAYING to get out of the Big 12 - is the evidence that, someone, somewhere within the upper echelons of the institution, came to the realization already that they are not special.

Fall 2024 gonna be AWESOME.

They literally beat all but one of those teams last year, and it was the team that lost 65-7 in the national title game

FIFY. Georgia played at least 3 SEC teams who were better than TCU last year. Watching Texas and Oklahoma get demolished for their first few years in the conference should be fun.

It's a realization that the landscape has changed. SEC and to a (much) lesser extent B1G have established themselves as the big boy leagues.

To be competitive nationally, any school in Texas has to lock the state down recruiting wise. Mack Brown was able to do that and went to two title games. A&M -- to their credit -- landed a haymaker by going to the SEC, allowing them to tell recruits "represent Texas in the big leagues."

The recruiting scales tipping more toward A&M, combined with horrible coaching choices, combined with a golden era for Baylor and TCU has resulted in the worst decade in our history.

Texas joining the SEC is a direct response to A&M and can certainly be viewed as an admission that they were right. I am glad we're joining them and am glad to be done with the shotgun wedding that was the Big 12. Negating their recruiting advantage is critical. Getting two hated historic rivals back is fantastic. And a schedule full of top power schools is going to be a hell of a lot of fun.

Sorry x, I don't spend every waking moment on this board making a fool out of myself like you do.

One thing I do find embarrassing is

Read a news story after the great dildo parade that said that teasip lost over 25% of their alumni membership because they were so embarrassed by the parade.

So what do the donghorns do next? They immortalize the parade in the student center along with a display of a dildo they nicknamed "Big Boy".

They even did a story on it in your school newspaper

Big Boy

I honestly don't know how anyone could support a university that supports events like that.

In 2009 Utx was in the #2 conference in the P6 for content (B1G will always have eyeballs). Instead of being a leader they let dissension fester.

B1G picked off Nebraska
PAC picked off Colorado

Instead of reacting quickly they sat on their hands working about a network that drove even deeper wedges in

Could have picked up WVU and Louisville and entered the East and new markets. instead let TAMU and MU feel the need to move to the SEC

Picked up TCU (overlapping market) and WVU (island) while the ACC added Louisville + Pitt + Cuse (and got ND as partial) assuring B12 got their nuts cut in the East

Now they are leaving the B12 like rats off a sinking ship and the network they bragged about became an albatross.

B12 went from #2 P6 to G5 on Utx's watch

I have a feeling they will study Utx and their help in the destruction of the B12 in business school classes on how to kill the golden goose.

Says you, outside objective folks will say they abandoned a ship they wrecked instead of going down with it.

Utx is like the white man to Chief "Two Eagles"

You're the one always talking about how OU is the alpha in our region, yet they have no culpability in the demise of the Big 12? The conference they won like 15 times? I think you just might hate us irrationally.

Anyway, Texas didn't want the Big 12 in the first place. It was forced upon us by Texas legislature threatening to cut funding if Baylor and Tech were not involved in whatever happened post-SWC.

So, you're right that Texas didn't bend over backwards to save the Big 12. But that was quite intentional. It's a flyover midwestern conference that had no chance of expanding in a good way. We only stayed in 2010 because ESPN bribed us with said albatross network.
