Former Big 8 power, takes a step up in competition and goes from a perineal power to a doormat. We have seen what happens when OU runs up against SEC teams before. And Venables is a significant downgrade from Riley as HC. He will not have the program ready to enter this league and they will struggle mightily to be competitive. I believe their days as an elite program are over.

Texas, I'm not sure due to its potential, that competition in the SEC could possibly unlock. They are the most underachieving program in college football. Unlimited money in a talent hotbed and only 1 title since 1970. They have been a middling team in the mediocre Big 12 for the better part of a decade. They have the tools to succeed but as long as the "my shite don't stink" booster culture and bitchness that has permeated throughout the program is in place, they will get run over. That holds them back significantly.

Texas is already the "new Nebraska" of the B12.

Why would that change when moving to the SEC?

UT and OU will have an even bigger recruiting area. NU lost their recruiting area when they joined the Big 10.

Texas hasn't been cheating.

Now, paying players is legal. Texas could have joined the SEC any time over the decades. It isn't a coincidence that Texas joined weeks after it became legal to get players paid.

Nebraska traded the Big 8 for the B1G, this alone assure OU and UTx of not doing the same.

OU has had success across multiple sports with less cash, less in state talent, and less population. They should be able to challenge

Utx is used to being the Big Fish in the Small Pond. With all their advantages they have severely underperformed. Until they learn to be part of the team they will continue as an underperformer in the bigger sports.

SEC was already brutal in baseball and softball, these 2 will just make it deeper and tougher.

Texas Exes are who Steinbeck describes as "shite heels" in The Grapes of Wrath.

Both won't go the way of Nebraska but they will have many seasons of mixed bag that are mediocrity and good.

If you look just at recruiting rankings, they will be playing against better talent, on a weekly basis, than they did in the B12.

What will all of that mean?

The loss of the ability to sign a roster full of partial qualifiers every year is what killed Nebraska.

Both true and false. The competition in the SEC will be tougher than it was in the B12 even if they’re both natty contenders (which they’re not, at least for now). The exposure they’ll receive in the SEC will ensure that attention will be given to them. NIL also plays a huge part in this, especially for Texas. Only question for each school is do they have the coaching required to compete with the likes of Saban, Kirby and (to an extent) Kelly while also holding off potential up-and-comers like Heupel and Beamer.

For non-football sports, they should fit in nicely, especially for baseball (for Texas) and softball (for OU). Men’s BB will also become a bit more legit IMO.

They'll both be competitive. Neither will be dominant. OU needs to get it's lines up to speed, especially on defense. TX needs to learn how to get out of it's own way. Personell will be easier to fix than culture.

Nebraska was still a power it first 8 years in the Big12. In its later years they still won 9-10 games a year under Pelini and during the early big10 years.

They only became a doormat after Pelini and have not recovered

Wheres Lincoln Nebraska compared to Norman and Austin? When is the last time Nebraska out recruited every sec team sans bama and UGA? Both OU and Texas just did from the big 12 in 2022
