Kirby was talking to Rees about coming to Uga as well - if Nick and Kirby like this kid then there is a good reason

I don’t really know what to think. I have to think Saban knows more than me about hiring coaches!!

I have no idea what to expect but it seems every OC Saban has hired has been criticized by a good many rivals and Alabama fans alike, including Kiffin and Sarkisian, and most of them worked out ok. Alabama fans , including me, give Kelly grief, but he knows the guy better than any of us so I suppose it’s a good sign that he wanted to hire the fellow. Edit to say I guess its a good sign he hired the fellow at ND and then wanted to bring him along to LSU

Oh yeah, and i do like that he’s a quarterback coach and not just an OC that coaches the qbs because there isn’t a qb coach to do it. The years we had for real qb coaches like Enos, Kiffin, and Sarkisian the qbs seemed to improve. Makes sense they would.

In a couple of weeks, we will see what he's brewing in the spring game. How cool is that?

The spring game rarely shows much of anything. Practices, sure, but the Aday game is just to entertain fans.

The players will be fighting their azz off for a job. And the QB competition will be intense.

I'm not particularly worried about Xs and Os, just culture and physicality.

I'm great with it. Nick is too. I was tired of funnin n gunnin. Get back to dictating the pace with a ground game, mix in some intermediate throws and deep shots but the offense is reliant on the O line and not the QB. It was proven not to work consistently and after last seasons slide Nick knew it was time to go back to what he was comfortable with. No more Lane Kiffins but more Jim McElwain. Our defense was exhausted in the 4th qtr of games and couldn't stop anybody the last few years. UGA convinced him that he didn't have to change. Nick took control of both sides of the ball in the bowl game and it showed. Nick used the bowl game to see if the old style worked. Bama threw only 24 passes the entire game. The defense was rested in the 2nd half and beat KSU the way it should have. This is a great move. I excited to see 27-13 wins again vs 45-43.

How did we feel when he hired Kiffin, “the unemployed loser”, or Sark. “the drunk,” the second time?

I know a lot of Alabama fans thought both were a mistake but I expected both would be good coordinators, judging primarily by the fact they were good at USC during that Pete Carroll run.

ND’s offense didn’t set the world on fire, but they won a lot of games. Ian Book was a decent QB under Rees.

Rees has overall better talent to work with now. We’ll be fine. We’ve won six titles with five different OC’s. The talk about coordinators is too much. It’s all about Saban.

I am cautiously optimistic. A change was certainly needed and Saban has a pretty good track record hiring coaches. Even BoB and Golding weren't terrible. Just less than their predecessors. We will see how Rees plays out, hopefully with Pruitt as the counterbalance. I know I'll be ready for some SEC football come September.

Cautiously optimistic. He was not one of my top picks but I don't think the hire is bad.

Expecting to turn 3* kids into 5* players is silly. For every example of where that happened, there’s a hundred where it doesn’t

Well considering the QBs they played the past few years were high 4*, idk if that argument works here.

IF NS did his research then I am ok with this. I sure hope Bama gets back to a physical run game. With the OL guy in his second year and a new OC I am excited. A few WR's and RB's coming back is a plus as well. The transfer TE has me thinking positive too
