I don't see how the university or athletic dept are responsible at all

they aren't, and it's kinda crazy that otherwise normal thinking adults are trying to spin some other kind of narrative. The incident only involved 4 people, only 1 of which was directly responsible for the outcome. Any person, businsess, or entity other than those 4 people have absolutely zero responsibility whatsoever.

They aren't, but that doesn't mean they can't be sued. The did rent the vehicle and it was one of their staffers driving the car. Whether they are liable or not is moot. You can sue anyone and if a judge doesn't throw out the case then things could head south real quick.

What do you mean by head south real quick?

If the University is responsible, do you not think we’ll settle for an incredibly large sum of $?

Obviously nothing will bring Chandler and Devin back, and it’s a horrific event, but I’m not sure what you think is going to happen here. The NCAA isn’t going to give us the SMU treatment.

I don't think any party wants this to go to trial. UGA/UGAAA probably doesn't want lawyers digging into their AD and the affected families may not want this to drag out over years with the chance of coming away empty handed.
