Did Burton not get a lot of snaps in 2021?
Snaps? Decent amount.
Targets? Not so much.
He got more of both at Bama, but the real issue with Burton is that he thought his production at UGA was a result of UGA not having a QB to get him the ball or not calling plays to feature him. But reality is that UGA sent him on routes but he just wasn't as great at getting open as he thought he was... and that was proven out at Bama.
I wasn't real concerned with losing Burton. I'm much more unhappy with AD Mitchell transferring this year. He is a #1 WR when healthy.

Now do per game numbers. Bennett averaged 275 yards a game with TEs and RBs accounting for half his yardage. No wonder an WR said no thanks to that.
Are you doing numbers for 2021 or 2022?
2022, our starting X was hurt.
Arian Smith was hurt.
Ladd McConkey was forced to play hurt.
Burton (if healthy...) would have been the man at UGA at both X and Y positions in 2022 if he was on the team.

Fair. I had no idea AD Mitchell was 6'4 until they mentioned it on the NC broadcast. He doesn't look that big on the field to me for some reason. Honestly, I think its because he wears a RBs number, #5. I thought the same thing with Tee Higgins when he was at Clemson.

Wow. 36 commits for LSU.
Good for you.
Good for you.

It would take a significant bump for me to leave after a good talk. This scenario is your assumption, and it might be true.
It might not take any bump for me to leave after a bad talk.

Burton is quick but he doesn’t get open early. This is usually a sign of bad hand work to get disengaged from press man and/or sloppy route running that doesn’t maximize spacing off change of direction.
It is telling that almost all of Burton’s biggest plays were occasions that protection or Young’s escapability allowed him to run across the width of the field deep for a reception. He can separate using his speed with enough time.
I tend to think his biggest problem is sloppiness with his footwork, hips, etc that isn’t creating the separation expected from a cut inward or outward. We’ve had some legendary route runners lately, so he’s getting some tough comps. Guys like Juedy and Smitty were masters at working those advantages.

My apologies. It isn't this difficult.
It is work. Not play. Not even school.
Your lack of getting there is my fault.

"Good talk" is relative.
He is behind Smael. Ahead of everyone else in the room..
Is that good? Bad?
Doesn't matter now because he has moved on.
He is making significantly more. 5 figures a month to 6.
Do with that what you will.

He used to be listed at 6’3. Wonder when he grew.

I don’t believe AD is even 6’3”. It’s ridiculous that colleges cannot put legit measurements on their websites.
The over/under line for NFL Combine 2024 for AD Mitchell will be 6’2”.

Full disclosure.
I don't watch Bama. I don't see what you see.
Burton is a + at separation off of the line.
He is a + at late separation to the ball.
He thinks he is strong, but it didn't translate to UGA from high school.

Burton isn't a burner. Your expectations are for a far superior athlete. You are looking for something and blaming it on hips and feet. He just isn't that guy.
In 2020 as a freshman, he had Bama defenders on spin cycle. But the ball didn't go his way (he wasn't Pickens. And didn't have full faith by QBs because he didn't know offense well enough).
He can run routes. He just isn't going to be the better athlete against the better teams.

Remember when you were trying to convince me BK was hurting LSU’s recruiting and Notre Dame was better off without him?
LINK /
ND is better off recruiting without him
2023 class - 91.45 avg, 282 points using 247 composite
2022 - 91.71, 279
2021 - 89.94, 270
2020 - 90.74, 251
2019 - 90.68, 258
The new guy is a better recruiter than Kelly at ND. How are Kelly's classes at LSU?
2023 - 92.04, 286
2022 - 91.6, 245
2021 - 92.8, 295
2020 - 93.2, 298
2019 - 90.7, 284
About equal to a little less than what Orgeron did.

This is about overall stats, so it wouldn’t make sense to do so.
Plus, It wasn’t that long ago you refused to discuss situations within individual games, so try to maintain some consistency, will ya?

Burton got the 2nd most snaps for WRs in 2021. 388. The original post I replied to was trying to imply that he couldn't get on the field enough for UGA, so he came to Bama. My point was he was seeing the field plenty at UGA, so that wasn't the reason.
How many snaps did he get at bama?
Posted on 1/20/23 at 10:36 am to meansonny
I didn’t really see the open-early in Tuscaloosa. The open-late is still there though.
Could be that the scheme didn’t get him in what he does best enough. I definitely thought we’d have a guy who chewed up receptions but it never happened.

Also, fwiw, UGA has developed into a very Greg Roman type TE+RB heavy throw game under Monken.
It’s not a bad approach because it exploits mismatch positions well.
I imagine WRs don’t care for it much because they’re running clear outs for TEs and RBs.

Monken’s offense is evolving every year in the passing game - if Carson Beck wins the starting nod you could expect more passes to the WRs as his best skill set is throwing the ball downfield - his arm is much better than Stetson’s (but not as good creatively and when play breaks down).
Monken tailors his offense to the personnel to a degree.
