Gene Chizik won with generational college QB nobody could stop that had an O-line with 4 seniors. And a DT that was unstoppable.

He was OC for that team, not HC

are you claiming gene chizik wasn't AU's head coach in 2010?

Gary Pinkel should be on that list. He coached 4 years in the SEC and won 2 East titles. His last 9 years he had 5 division titles and was the SEC coach of the year in 2014. In 2015 his final year he coached even though he had been diagnosed with cancer.

When Pinkel came to Mizzou they had 2 winning seasons in the previous 17 years. He turned the program around that had suffered underneath 4 terrible coaches and a Athletic Department that wouldn’t spend money on football.

Pinkel and Saban come from the same coaching tree. They were college teammates and coached together for 2 years under Don James. In 1990 Saban left Toledo and Pinkel took his place. What hurt Pinkel was his ability to recruit. His 18th ranked class in 2004 was his best recruiting class. Most of his recruiting classes were in the 30’s and 40’s. If he could have been half the recruiter Saban was he could have been an elite coach.

Kirby Smart is the best man to ever coach the sport!

1- Saban

2- Urban
3- Kirby
4- Dabo

But if Smart wins a couple more NCs you'd have to put him in the runner up slot...but I'd keep Urban there for the fact, like Saban, he won the NC at two different schools... which would still give him the slight edge if Kirby gets to 3. But obviously with 7 NCs Saban is in a class all his own.

Pinkel coached in the SEC in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 in the East not the West.

My top 6:

1. Saban
2. Meyer
3. Smart
4. Dabo
5. Spurrier
6. Bob Stoops

Remaining are interchangeable. Jimbo has dropped off significantly after joining A&M.

Yeah. I agree.

You've got to give Urban Meyer credit for getting out of Gainesville with his fake heart problems. That is a lot of creativity to quit on a team that you won't find in other top coaches. It puts him way ahead of Spurrier who couldn't come up with such an excuse.

I'm a little surprised so many people have urban at #2 considering the time frame.

-Him and Kirby both have 2 national titles in the span
-Urban had 3 years in the SEC during this time frame. One season was a national title (wiht a loss), one was a year that ended with no SEC title but a sugar bowl win, and the other was a dreadful 8-5. Kirby also has a dreadful 8-5 (his first year ever as a HC), he also has a non-SEC winning sugar bowl winning season (2019), and also has a national title that included a loss(2021).

Urban then went to OSU where he feasted on a relatively weak conference (the dabo model) and did win a 2nd title (with a loss again, unlike kirby whose other title was undefeated).

The two are pretty darn similar only kirby has done it against stiffer competition and also has a 15-0 season to his credit. I would put kirby solidly at #2 wiht urban at 3 and dabo at 4.

Hey WG,

I updated the OP to be more clear. If the coach was actively coaching during the specified timeframe then his whole resume applies. I feel like that makes it easier for everyone to rank

Yeah... kinda looks like Chizik is listed as head coach. You are getting mixed up years and thinking about Malzahn.
