You have a perfect play caller in an office right down the hall from you. Go to him and see if he will be OC for a year or 2 and bring someone in to learn from him and then make them your OC.
I knew it's crazy thinking and definitely not going to happen but imagine Legway with Spurrier as his OC.
I know Crazy. But it would be fun

I bet watching us is driving him crazy. According to an article it was Tony Elliott calling the plays when Scott was co-OC there. Scott may be the only name we can get to come here but I am still scared he might just run what Billy wants. I hope he would have a modern passing game with the WRs we will have next season.

I am really starting to wonder about Coach Napier.

Napier: We struggled with the counter last week in part because Kentucky executed it perfectly and they hadn't run the ball using the same technique a week earlier. It was part of the focus this week.

y'all ever heard of "Air Yards"?

air yards - the distance of the ball thrown downfield before it reaches the receiver.

example 1: line of scrimmage is the 20 yd line. receiver is at the 30 yd line. that would be 10 "air yards".

example 2: line of scrimmage is the 20 yd line. receiver is at the 17 yd line. that would be -3 "air yards".

want to know how many air yards we had against vandy?

28 total air passing yards

want to know how many total yards passing we had against vandy?

280 total passing yards.

GNFP review discusses it.

I like Mertz, but I think he has a hard time with deep throws. Maybe he lacks the confidence, or he doesn't see guys open deep, but he isn't great with throws that are 15+ yards down the field. Or, he hasn't shown to be great yet.

I believe the problem is pass protection, notice how many times he is chased out of th pocket to even throw a mid range pass.

That could be a major factor. Would be nice to see better pass pro to find out if there really is an issue with Mertz or not.

Mertz doesn't like to pull the trigger on longer throws it seems unless the guy is pretty open. Maybe from all the bad stuff at Wisconsin or Napier rubbing off on him. In the review of the plays you can see he doesn't throw it when many QBs would have.

I guess growing up in the 80s watching the 49ers destroy defenses throwing many concepts we run now, I really dont GAF how many "air yards" we have as long as the team moves the ball offensively.

This guy is a joke tbh. Im surprised he has the following he has not knowing basic passing concepts.

They threw hooks short of the first down line and swing out passes 5 yards behind the LOS?

DMB has said this in the past, but he, nor anyone else, has actually mentioned anything that explains why he’s wrong.

He’s not on staff so I can believe he might be wrong on some things, but until I see Billy drawing up reviews on the plays, I’m gonna have to assume that there’s some validity to what he’s seeing and explaining to me.

I'm not a huge fan of those types of youtube channels of coach analysts, but I respect that they try to dive in from an X's and O's standpoint rather than the majority of podcasters who just talk out of their asses (minus the troll channels that intentionally do it for laughs).

I called him out and even showed a diagram of the concept we ran that he was butchering and he just stopped responding. I guess to save face

No, ok I may be wrong or anything.

He went off on a play we ran from trips where Arlis was stopped short of the sticks on 4th down

It was a Flood concept ran by many teams, Air Raid teams call it Y Corner.
This guy spent a few minutes saying how routes didn’t compliment each other ect because he looked at it backwards.
Yes we were in Trips left and if you look at the trips side of the field they don’t look like they help each other but they’re going to the right where the concept side of the play was.
-Mertz never even looked left- big indicator

This guy just drew lines all over the left side of the field full or woulda shoulda’s and pretty much turned it into an anti Billy segment.

Simple stuff like that is why I pay him no mind.

Crazy thing. The Seth guy doing breakdowns is actually a Coach who knows concepts by name and even tells you where they came from and ppl call him a sunshine pumper which further shows that his base is full of ignorant ppl who already have their minds made up and dont want to see anything that may remotely shine a good light on Billy

Coaches do it all the time. From Leach to Kiffin.

In the Air Raid most concepts like Mesh/Y Corner/Y Stick have a WR going deep, a guy underneath to the area vacated and a flat receiver shallow of him, often the back
Look at Leach’s teams n tell me how many of his RBs had a shitload of catches. They weren’t running Fades.
