I think the portal should be reserved for upperclassmen only. You shouldn’t be able to commit as a freshman then leave because you didn’t start as a freshman.

However if it’s not working out by the time you’re a junior or senior you can transfer

I mean, this isn't slavery.
If a kid wants to leave, let him leave.

But he should be ineligible for the first year unless he has his diploma.
There are hundreds of eligibility requirements. Years removed from high school. Academic requirements. Etc.. one of those eligibility requirements should be 1 year after an undergrad transfer.

It doesn't prevent NILs buying players. But it sure does deter it (pay 2 years to receive 1 deferred).
