UGA didn’t have to beat 2nd best team in conference or 2nd best in nation to win the title

(Bama and Michigan)

Absurdly lucky for a team that already has a huge talent advantage over 95% of CFB teams.

what metric do you choose that makes a team 2nd best in the nation?

It sounds like, and this is just a theory here, that the “2nd best” teams might have lost some games along the way.

And this is crazy, so stay with me, maybe in losing those games, they showed they weren’t “2nd best”.

I know, it’s crazy, but sometimes the results of games matter more than our preconceived notions..

What!? Well shite, i'm gonna write a strongly worded email to the NCAA in favor of pulling UGA's Championship. I just learned from the very well informed and smart posters of the SECrant that UGA not only played the weakest opponent in NC history, but we only won games because of injuries, and now this?

That's it for me. Pull it down.

If you are referring to Alabama, its Alabama's fault we did not play them, not ours.

Second best team in the conference was Tennessee. LSU was third and Bama fourth. It all played out on the field.

Who was the second best team in the conference? UT? Beat them. LSU? Beat them too.

Oh, you must mean Alabama who lost to both of those teams and therefore didn't have the RIGHT to play for the SEC championship.

The national championship game is NOT the Alabama invitational. Win your games to have a shot.

Maybe those teams shouldn't be losing important games...

God Damn. You are going to make me defend Georgia...

Georgia won every game they played this season, many of them by large spreads. Alabama shouldn't have lost to a team that lost to A&M.

Because those teams lost?

Jesus. Why is it so difficult for this board to understand what a playoff is?

If you want the BCS back, just say it.

So it’s UGA’s fault that bama choked in the regular season and Michigan choked in the playoffs?

Bama was not the 2nd best team in the SEC that would have been Tennessee who beat Alabama during the regular season. Alabama was not even the best team in the SEC West that would have been LSU who Alabama lost to and who also lost to UT and UGA. Badly on both accounts.

UGA did, however, beat the #2 team in the nation in TCU. T recap UGA beat the second best team in the SEC behind themselves and the second best team in the nation behind themselves again.

Seeing that they gave Tennessee (who beat Alabama and LSU) one of its two losses, and they beat the SEC West champion, they clearly beat the #2 team in the conference in whatever form you look at it. They then beat the #4 and #3 teams in the country, since Michigan lost in the playoff. I don't see your point, other than perhaps Georgia living rent free in your head.

That's really weird because I remember winning the SEC championship game when we played the 2nd best team in the conference

What made up reality do some of you live in? Alabama had 2 conference losses and finished 4th in the league.

According to the standings Bama was 4th in the SEC and UT was second, so technically UGA beat #2 and #3 in SEC.

But by your logic, they beat the #2 team in the country in OSU because a lot of people think they were better than UM despite the results on the field.

Alabama didn’t earn the opportunity to lose to this Georgia team.
