Given the rapid population growth in this country, especially in the south where people care, no title game should be less than the one before.

Yet, this is seemingly a worst case scenario for college football. I’m happy for Georgia, such a well run program, great school, and some of my colleagues work there.

However, this is just one more signal that the game is well past its pinnacle as a national game.

Yep.

The college football has become a shell of its former self. Twenty years ago it enjoyed broad national appeal. Now it's only played seriously in the South and Midwest. USC had to leave the Pac-12 (a conference they practically helped found) in order for its football program to survive. Similarly, Oklahoma and Texas saw the writing on the wall for the Big 12.
