More recently UGA has a title and if y'all get another you'll feel like we did a decade ago. But as mentioned, everything is cyclical. In 2010 we'd just won two titles and were 17-3 in our previous twenty games. Fast forward to today we're 5-8 against you.

To be honest, the cycles come from coaches, not some predestined need for change. Particularly key coaching hires.

To start with UGA dominated.

23-4-1 to begin the series.

Then UF hired Woodruff and the series changed. UF went 10-2 under Woodruff and Graves in favor of UF.

Then UGA hired Dooley, and the series became competitive for a while. 3-3-1.

Then UF hired Doug Dickey and they went downhill. 15-4 in favor of UGA.

Then UF hired Spurrier and Dooley retired giving UGA Goff. 18-3 in favor of UF (this goes through the end of Urban Meyer's time)

With Meyer gone it's been 8-4 in favor of UGA, including 5 of the last 6 under Smart's watch at UGA. Given more time, we might see that it was 3-3 with Richt there facing non-Meyer coaches at UF... with the bigger shift coming after Smart arrived at UGA (after the first year issues).

Dooley also changed the schedule after his first 10 years (5-5)so that he usually played a cupcake before the WLOCP while
the Gators played Auburn.

And one of the first things he did was change the schedule so the Gators had an off week before Jacksonville and it obviously made a difference and it took
UGA a while to do the same.

There was also a culture shift in Athens post Jan Kemp and it lasted through the CMR years. We weren't "all in" like most of the other schools in the big 6.We refused to "oversign" classes, went way overboard with disciplinary procedures and didn't invest in facilities or staff. All that changed with President Morehead and Kirby.

No doubt coaches can change cycles but lots of other things play a factor as well.

Pretty sure Smart has lost twice to Florida.
