Star Wars, He-Man, Real Ghostbusters, Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc. Now, stores like Toys R Us and KB are defunct.

Did it become less cool to engage in non-social playtime (playing with figures) and more cool to engage in social playtime like multiplayer video games?

Yeah, I’m guessing video games took over as the primary form of entertainment. Probably when we were playing with He-Man dolls some old timers were asking why marbles and jacks weren’t popular anymore.

Nostalgia sells, and it sells to adults. Kids are all about their phone or screens these days. It’s sad. There’s an entire world (a real one) out there, and they limit themselves to social media approval.

I still have over a hundred Starting Lineup sports figurines in a box somewhere

Because they’re addicted to iPads and phones now. I got lucky and grew up with action figures and game boys so I got the best of both.

Their action figures went online

The funny think is they’ll never be able to sell their avatars for bank in 30 years

I used to love GI Joe, I remember I used to take my GI Joe and my cousins Star Wars and pretend we were fighting and the argue about whether GI Joe could beat Star Wars.

Video games. Now they get to play virtual versions of their action figures.

Video games are so realistic and immersive now it is hard for any other form of “play” to compete.

They haven't. Check out the toy ailses in Walmart and Target. They have lots of them.

All the good kids shows became really girly. So boys just are not as into them anymore. There always has to be a lead female and the boys are just dumbasses. Or the boys are dressed as cats and the girls are the boy type characters.

because of video games, kids no longer play with toys

some have tried making action figures taken from video games, but they flopped, and no one bought them, because kids just want more games not toys made from figures in the games

A couple of weeks ago, our basement den looked like the beaches of Normandy with all the little green Army men, diecast airplanes and lego minifigs strewn about. I don't know what kind of battle our 11 year old had dreamed up, but it was epic...
