This just shows the uselessness of bowl games. Bowls with no national championships implications is just a business making money. Just allow teams to get the extra practice in and then take a trip with no bowl game.....Players used to play for the fun of it. Now there is much more riding on the players being healthy to risk injury in a useless game.

With the playoff expansion, you'll at least have something to play for. It should limit your players sitting. The bowl practices can be very beneficial though if you have a coaching staff in place. With Bryce leaving, it's a big reason I want us to go ahead and get the coordinator stuff settled. Get the right OC in place and use the bowl practice to get early work with Ty and Jalen or have a better idea of a possible transfer QB for us.
Sadly, the more likely situation is for us to be without an OC or DC in place for the bowl game and Bryce sitting out. It's kind of a waste of the extra practice time which is unfortunate.

DT55, excellent points.

not accurate. Saban has never fired or let go of OC/DC before a bowl game. Only time he has done that was kiffin and it was mutual agreement.

So, he has done it. BoB leaving is supposed to be a mutual agreement, correct?

After seeing our team this year, I am surprised we are still in the #1 spot in recruiting. I can't imagine whats being said on the recruiting trail about the whole situation.....I am with DT55, the sooner we get rid of the coordinators after signing day the better. I think it shows Saban is willing to revamp the program with better coaching and keeping Bama at a level of dominance and not left slowly sliding into mediocrity. In this situation, change shows more promise to me than keeping things at status quo.

If 10-2 is so terrible then there are a lot of teams that are going to plummet in recruiting . They need to go but we will be fine

Bryce has to make his own decision on what’s best for him and his future. I will support whatever he or any draft eligible player decides to do if it’s not a playoff situation.

After the bowl and signing day he'll be gone.

You're more than likely right but wish it was handled sooner.

Different circumstances. That happened when Kiffin was headed to a head coaching job. Hard to believe either of our present coordinators are being looked at for a head coaching position.

No reason for a top 5 pick to play in a meaningless bowl. Look what happened to Notre Dame LB, Jaylon Smith
Then he pretty much should have sit out every game following the loss to LSU.

That 8th grade QB at Thompson might want to sit out until he's draft eligible. I kid, but really, where do you draw the line? A "meaningless" bowl game is one thing, but what if CFP participants start having opt outs? Personally, I wouldn't draft a guy that did that, but the NFL doesn't really care. For decades all bowl games except 1-2 were meaningless every year, but guys still played. Different times I guess...not necessarily better.

Nvm, saw your post history and I have no desire to engage with someone who hangs out on the Poli board

It will be interesting to see when they go to the 12 team playoff if we see 1st round mock draft picks sitting out the CFP to prevent injuries.

I hope all of our fans will support them in that decision.
I apologize if I don’t support multi-millionaires sitting out just so they can be sure they don’t lose money.

Saban has a way of getting guys to play. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the ones we think sit, don’t.
Against Michigan we had quite the showing of veterans.

If I recall it was only Lewis and Diggs who opted out right? And I think Terrell had a legit injury reason.

I saw lots of yards after contact with Auburn because there were defenders watching instead of gang tackling.

If you think a new OC from outside the program can come in, learn our players’ strengths, and be ready to call plays effectively for the bowl game, I really don’t know what to tell you… that’s just not very realistic.
