After he won the second NC in 2018, Dabo spent the off-season at sporting events across the country, hob-knobbing with celebrities, and just being visible. I think his intentions were to promote the Clemson brand, but the unintended effect was to think he had "arrived", IMO. I believe he has lost the hungry underdog mentality that drove him to be the best.

In the past, he went far and wide to hire the best staff -all with proven records of success. Recently, his hires have little to no experience -most glaringly the two new coordinators. His mantra of "best is the standard" has turned into "guess is the standard" -hoping these greenhorns work out. It's like he's committed to a "friends and family" plan for the coaching staff, with little consideration for outside influence.

I think Dabo can rekindle that motivation to be the best; I just hope it doesn't require a lot of subpar performances to do it.

Ironically, as much as gamecock fans loved it at the time, one of the best things that ever happened to Clemson was the 70-33 Orange bowl loss. That forced Dabo to bring in Venables. And as they say, the rest was history. When Dabo lost his OC and DC last year, Gamecock fans KNEW the worm had turned. I "called it" last year.

Thank you, THANK YOU Lincoln Riley

Dabo needs to swallow his pride, and make a high quality OC hire from outside the program. And if you look at their Defensive stats for this year, one could argue that he needs to make a DC hire as well. Clemson is down in 2022 compared to 2021 in almost every metric

Note: TFL's and Sacks are national ranks and not numbers...

Now, 1 data point does not make a trend and correlation does not equal causation. But if I'm a Clemson fan, in light of everything else going on in the program, those numbers are a little concerning. Especially when you know that Venables' defense was the grease that made Clemson go for many years (that and catching two generational college QB's back to back.)

And none of this mentions Dabo's buyout which is somewhere around $60 million. Can Clemson afford to get rid of him if things turned bad??

TL,DR version, Clemson football is at a cross roads and their coach needs to do some soul searching.
