Didnt bama have a top 3 ranked recruitment and transfer portal class?

No, Bama was ranked sixth in using the transfer portal. And does one good year with the transfer portal automatically negate four prior bad years with it?

The transfer portal was originally set up because coaches like Saban were oversigning classes and "grayshirting" players who apparently would never play a down at Bama but now couldn't play at any other schools either due to their commitments to Bama. The transfer portal has now given those players visibility and a voice, and now they can leave Bama and pursue their dreams of playing football at other SEC schools. Saban is already speaking out about it, implying that the transfer portal will bring down college football. Usually when he says something like that, he is basically saying that he personally finds it overwhelming. Back during his first drop-off in wins at Bama (2010), he was regularly a lone voice in the wilderness crying wolf on TV claiming that the spread offense was dangerous and would cause injuries and should be banned, apparently because his own teams had difficulty stopping it. 12 years later, the spread hasn't proved any more dangerous than any other offensive scheme.
