Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing but love and respect for Carnell Williams. He was thrust into an impossible position, taking over an abysmal team in the middle of an abysmal season and only having three days to prepare for a night game on the road against an SEC divisional foe. That would be an almost impossible task for even an experienced head coach, much less a coach who’s never been more than a position coach and he’s only done that for a handful of years. And yes, after a terrible first half Cadillac coached that team to an amazing second half. He made the Auburn family proud.

But no one in their right mind thinks Carnell Williams is remotely ready to be a full time head football coach in the SEC. It would not be fair to him to expect him to be remotely ready to lead a college football program. He simply does not have the experience.

Having said all that, I sincerely hope whoever they do hire for HC has the sense to retain Carnell Williams on the staff. And, given time and coaching experience, there very well could come a day when Carnell Williams will be ready to lead a program. But that day is not here yet.
