Thanks to the Bama fans honest assessment.

Could it be an NIL thing? I think the majority of his players are mercenaries. They were willing to take the abuse from him (more than tough love) to get the NFL payday.

But now in the NIL world, those same players are getting paid in college. Takes a bit of the desire out of them. Lack of team. Lack of cohesion.

To motivate kids to play now, you have to have more than promise of NFL $ and fear (Sabans stick and trade). This team looks like a bunch of fat and happy mercenaries. You’ll get the wins where your 5 stars dominate physically, but when they match up against similar Tallent (or lesser Tallent) that is motivated, you get TN and LSU. Look out for Ole Miss and Auburn (nothing to lose).

I think you are right. Before NIL kids were willing to put up with Saban because it would get them to the league and a payday. Now these kids are getting paid with NIL. Saban will have to adjust to dealing with kids that are getting paid or he will run. It’s why he ran from the Dolphins-grown men, who made much more money than him were not going to put up with him.

I do think this has something to do with it, but I don't think it is some "the table has been leveled, Bama can't compete in this new world" ridiculousness. Bama is still bodying everyone else on the recruiting trail. I think NIL has made Saban less interested in his job. We already know he didn't like coaching in the NFL because he didn't like dealing with professionals and their attitudes. But now, with NIL, half the players on his college team are professionals. He just seems less invested overall.
