What really worries me is I know for a FACT!! Saban helped scheme this game on defense. He was very hands on for prepping this game. This is where his pregame confidence came from saying we have a plan. We stuck too the plan and didn’t adjust. Then Saban in his presser said we needed to play better. You can’t play a safety one on one with a burner. They don’t have that kind of coverage skills. UT would run motion and stack to get the miss match. I’m worried Saban doesn’t realize it was a bad scheme. Just like he doesn’t see we have bad OC and DC. He is just happy we have stability and can recruit. Talent only goes so far when they are put in negative positions on the field. Go look at our recruiting classes and look at UTs. We also have the heisman trophy QB… tell me the game should have been even close.. this is poor coaching and it’s not the first time. You can’t expect players to win mismatches with no adjusting. The coaches job is to put them in a winnable situation. What we have done is setting them up for failure, but win off talent. I promise as a highschool coach we see this and try to never do it. The OC is absolutely to blame as well, we just saw what mismatches look like and how to scheme them. We keep saying our WRs never get separation. Then it’s on the OC to scheme it up.. kiffin and Sark were master of it. We just out talent people now, but scheme is not there. We should never go 7 straight 3 and outs against Texas. Nothing will change this season, but a deep dive into a overhaul needs to be looked at. If we are running the same routes we have been for 3 years we need to change it. Run your offense around the skill players and find mismatches. Look at the A&M game last year.. we never adjusted to the blitiz and kept running slow developing plays. It also takes forever for the play to come in and we run better high tempo. Look at our 2min drill success. The game never flows with the play calls.. and yes we have drops. But we shouldn’t constantly be in 2nd and 12. We are predictable and run the same plays over and over. No wrinkles or adjusting. We ran the same 4 pass plays all game with 2 option routes. It’s not good and a lot of former players have called it out. These might be the worst coordinators we have under Saban, with the most talent we have had as players. It’s frustrating.. we have to do more than recruit. Take away Bryce and this team loses 4 games with all that talent. Just my rant.. hope we get it figured out. We will be in SEC championship game.. we out talent everyone else left on our schedule by a mile

If he can't see that was a bad coverage scheme with our safeties get burned repeatedly for 75+ yd TD's he's pretty bad off.

No idea what Saban’s level of involvement is in the specific gameday schemes / coverages, but it does seem telling in any event that he seems to consistently attribute our failures almost exclusively to lack of execution of late - now moreso than ever, I think. That’s kind of a hope killer even if you assume that our issues are 100% execution (which they most definitely aren’t). Like, if you find yourself saying that over and over, isn’t it time to think about making some substantial changes instead of just thinking a good week of practice will give meaningful improvement?

Notice how we’re not jumping all over teams in the 1Q consistently anymore? We’re an extremely easy team to scheme for under the current regime. If not for BY being the generational talent he is, this is a 8-4 team.

Thank you for your insights.

Two points in response:

If that’s true about Saban, it sounds like hubris has set in and I never thought that possible.

Secondly, I left tidefans awhile ago, but occasionally I go back and take a peek.

I found this tidbit in the post game thread

“ Yes to all of it. Yes. The penalties. Yes. UT getting away with blatant personal fouls on Bryce Young. Yes. The DPI at the end, when Kool-Aid got the INT. Yes. Oh my Lord YES to the OC and the DC just flat out having no clue whatsoever.

But I'm going to say this as gently as I can. There is rot in this program. A lack of discipline and order that we have taken for granted. And I'm not sure there is time at this point to turn it around. I'm talking big picture here.

Of course we came back when down 28-10. We've got more talent on our sideline than any other program right now. But we've lost the basics. I'm not sure I can say anymore than that at this time.

Roll Tide anyway, and forever.”

Take it for what it’s worth, but I don’t like reading that kind of stuff about Alabama.

What I’d love to know is who are the 2 ostrich-headed dumbasses who downvote an actual coach telling you what’s wrong with this football program…
