Typically I am not a big proponent of making coaching changes in non-revenue sports as long as the program is competitive, but at this point it kinda feels like the softball program has been on a downward trajectory for a while now. He loses the All American pitcher he has worked like a rented mule after this season, so what's he going to do when he can't win games 2-1 next year? Launch angle analytics apply to softball just like they do baseball, and if Murphy doesn't believe there is any merit to it then it is pointless to keep him. He has had a great run and built the program almost from scratch, but you either change or you get left behind.

He's always had a decent pitcher so I am sure he'll find one for sure but we still haven't seen Salter yet and she was really good out of high school.

I think he most definitely need to make some adjustments but who knows what he'll do.

I think this early loss will help significantly in the long run.

Like Joka, I’m not ready to throw in the towel on the season yet but yesterday was pretty disappointing. Seemed like a continuation of last year’s regional. Inconsistent hitting by folks who have been here the longest. Also had the dreaded ‘lead off runner gets on; sac bunt to advance to 2nd; ground out to advance to 3rd then pop up to end the inning’ when runs were needed most. If this is the effort that shows up in Clearwater I wouldn’t be surprised to come away 0’fer in that tournament. Huge red flags with pitching but perhaps it would look better with some run support. Byrne was there watching fans stream out after Lehigh went up by 3 in the 7th. Georgia Southern batted out of order which killed one of their scoring rallies otherwise that game might have looked a little different.

A douse of cold water to kick off the season for Team 27.
