Both have great football history. How many years does it take in the SEC grind to admit " This grind is a lot harder than we thought" ?

Year 3? Thats what I'm thinking.

Texas has been below average since 2010. Even their Sugar Bowl year of 2018, they had 3 conference losses. To think they are going to come into the SEC and do better conference wise is highly unlikely.

OU is more interesting. They have dominated the Big 12 for years. They have only lost more than 2 games overall once in ten years. They have a lot further to fall, but I can see them being a problem in the conference.

Not only will there be a massive talent difference, both OU and Texas are leaving their weak away-game environments behind in the Big 12.

Since they play each other at a neutral site every year, their ideas of tough road environments are Texas Tech and WVU. Neither of them have played in multiple away games in the same season where the visitor stadium exceeds 100,000 capacity.

You saw what happened last year when Texas played at Arkansas. That game was over before it started.

Here’s the thing. Every conference is a grind because the teams in that conference have to play a majority of games vs said teams. Teams build their rosters to get through the conf grind no matter what.

Then you have playoffs. The reason SEC has done great in playoffs is because the other conferences are built differently - the SEC top teams are defense oriented.

I think most would agree with over a month to prepare for playoffs this favors defense over offense. Easier to slow down an offense. OU had some of the most prolific offenses ever and yet had a crappy D. That did them in in playoffs.

Going foward OU is gearing up for defense and brought in Venables and Roof and some other specialty defensive coaches. They will have a much better balance going in.

Once you get past the top 2-4 SEC teams its similar to other conferences where the rest can beat you on any given Saturday but are not top teams.

So in one way I agree it’ll be a grind but in another its already a grind based on conf and how teams are constructed. The biggest adjustment is if due to these big conferences you will play conf games right out of the gate. Way less popcorn states for everyone to start the year and work out kinks. Thats going to be for all teams not just OU.

Conferences go in cycles too, I recall the Big 12 South had the best division in college for a spell.

OU won’t win as much for sure. And the games will be exciting. New venues, new traditions to learn. New rivalries. I look forward to it.

While I certainly don't think OU will dominate the SEC like they have the Big 12, especially like when they won 6 CCs in a row, I do hope we are competing for championships regularly.

It's going to take a little more depth overall and a rebuild of the defense. It's very early in the BV era, but he does seem to have the team on that path with his recruiting and the defensive changes.

I'm not big on making predictions, but what's already been implemented since Riley left has me far more optimistic than I was a year ago.

I look at A&M in year one with Manziel that were dominate, year two had 4 loses Manziel’s last year then year three was when it kicked in

I’m concerned the SEC underestimates Texas’ ability to come in and compete immediately. Predictions on this board about the Texas/Ala game now seem silly, in light of what we saw on Saturday. Ala’s team didn’t suddenly change. It is the same team that everyone said was so great. And it may be a great team. It beat Texas by a point with a load of help.

They'll never admit it.

This entire board was predicting Bama by at least 3TDs and they barely escaped with their lives last Saturday and could've lost by 2TDs themselves.

Are you people sure your perspective is realistic and not just an extension of your own egos which are emotionally tied to your conference identity?

There is limited success in conference. In the end, it won't be any different, only the names will have changed. Where they end up in the order remains to be seen, but it's not going to make the grind harder.

The only thing that would make it harder is going from an 8 to a 9 game conference. Which is dumb, but more likely. Still that would be the case even if we didn't add Texas and Oklahoma. It's dumb because again, success in conference is limited. All conference games come out to .500 and it just makes the conferences overall record biased close to .500.

We saw what happened in 2020. SEC teams were extremely under ranked due to records. Then they go into bowl games and you get "top 15" ranked teams losing to .500 SEC teams badly.

Texas may be coming in at just the perfect time for them. They have a good OL and Billy Ray Cyrus looks like a top 3 in NCAA QB. Similar to when A&M joined.

If they would have joined any time in the last 12 years there would be two Texas 8&4 teams.

Texas and OU always play well against teams when they get weeks or months to plan for 1 game.

Texas has had Alabama and Oklahoma circled all off-season. Alabama has had every SEC school plus Texas circled all off-season.

I seem to have missed the part where Texas won the game.

One of the things that may backfire on us is that the last ten yrs or so we all have been poaching players from their recruiting geography because they could come play in the SEC instead of the minor league Big12. Soon that pitch goes away.

OU’s BCSNCG/CFP record against the SEC is evident enough of how tough it will be.

The round robin was a grind.....all the big 12 teams knew us backwards and forwards ...

And the new coaches that won championships at lower levels were very good...
The new coaches figured out Lincoln’s offense and shut it down, we scraped by last year and barely got third in a year when TexASS was basically crap warmed over.....

I love tho idea of playing new teams , just for the unowned situation.....

I expect we will do as well in the SEC as we did in the Big 12????? :doublebird: :doublebird:

We already added two Big 12 schools. Last weekend they both lost bigly to Appalachian State and Kansas State. The grind takes its toll.

I'm pretty sure that Sark understands the grind and will see to it that his players understand what they are facing. I'm not sure if Coach Venables is prepared for what is coming. He's a really good defensive coach, but he never had to face SEC level talent in the regular season at Clemson. Those boys may be in for a surprise.
