It seems that way to me too. I think a lot really depends on there being a strong alignment between the player's goals and the coaching staff's opinion about his strongest role on the field. Especially at a program that is consistently recruiting instant impact freshmen. If you don't settle into a certain position pretty quickly you can easily find yourself stuck behind younger players on the depth chart.

Went back and looked at it and it really isn't that bad really for athletes. All these guys were listed as athletes on 247:

Trevon Diggs
Bo Scarborough
Eddie Jackson
Derrick Henry
ArDarius Stewart
Blake Sims (although he played everywhere and waited)

Kardarious Callaway, Burgess-Becker and Sanders did not stick it out.

Townsend and Story are really the 2 others outside of Sims unless I am missing someone after 2010. Both have flashed but just didn't rise to the top. Really a high hit rate.

We have NiBlack, Law, Bond and Kite for 2022 but they all have defined positions.
