And once they are freshmen playing for the university, it isn't recruiting reps. I can see the confusion for a fan base who doesn't know what to do outside of recruiting season. But it is called player development. And it beat Bama in a big game last season.

My point has always been that half of the conference is below average and that you can't find 4 great conference games a year for your team (3 tops) and probably can only find one great conference season opener in your lifetime.

This is a non-point. There are 130+ FBS teams and only about 10-15 of them are really good. It is an unrealistic goal - mathematically - to want 50-60 "good" games.

So ...

The intensity comes from the fact that in-conference games mean something. They count in standings. We're not playing Southwestern Utah Community College.
