This is what passes for "realistic' down here..."multiple DL first round draft picks?" really? any idea how many teams in CFB history sported "Mutiple first round DL draft picks" on the same team? Heck, why not say the "LSU DL will have four first team all-Americans who will be first round draft picks, lock, and that all will be perennial all-pros."

Im not saying the LSU DL will not be good, it might even be very good (the superlatives for the DL are coming mostly from group-think LSU fans on Tr, not national evaluations). But, it is not realistic to start talking this "multiple first round" non-sense. Point is, it is hard to get purple and gold glasses off this insular, isolated fan base in order to get any realistic look at the upcoming team.

So I'll give my usual negative biased evaluation (i'm also always negative about Alabama for what it's worth). It is hard to judge a completely new team in every respect. I don't ever remember a team more absolutely rebuilt, in the 60-70 years I've been concious about SEC football except maybe when Bryant came to Alabama. I mean rebuilt all the way down to the secretaries, nutrient staff, janitors, not to mention having to collect such a huge number of players and coaches from the wilds.

Given the complete unknown, I think LSU will be overmatched in about four games in conference, and will be 50-50 in the other four. If LSU wins one of the overmatch games and split the 50-50s, result could be 6-6 to 7-5 year depending on the bounce of the ball and the result of the FSU game... and that will be a good result for a first year. Remember Saban's first year at Alabama and Bryant's first year too.

Remember we are talking "realistic.." are we not?

Geez who pissed in your cheerios. I guess bama fans are now melting when they dont win a natty.

Your screeching response sounds like a woman complaining about equality.

Multiple first round draft picks on a DL, i dunno it's probably happened a decent amount of times in all of CFB history and most of those teams were probably pretty darn good. Dumb gump didnt see it on espn therefore it must not be true. These guys are monsters and you will hear more about them as the season progresses.

PFF seems to think highly of these two:
15. DI JAQUELIN ROY, LSU (JUNIOR)
37. EDGE B.J. OJULARI, LSU (JUNIOR) - sorry not 1st round but high second round

Ali gaye - 2nd team all sec in 2020, injured last year, back to form for 2022 and on preseason all sec list
Maason Smith only a sophomore PROJECTION First Round on 247sports

looks like some "national evaluations" are actually pretty high on these guys.

A rebuild doesn't necessarily have to start with a bad season. Urban Meyer took a 6-7 Ohio State team to 12-0 in his first year, and that was with a post season ban in place. So ok, Nick Saban lost 7 games his first season, cool. Irrelevant. Gump can only understand things in terms of nick saban history.

The complete unknown is actually good for LSUs situation, given the state and culture of the program from the previous 2 seasons. I'm saying it likely can't be worse than that.

The original post said nothing about "realistic", the word was honest and said to give an assessment of your team. Not surprised the gump cant read. And yes, this is an honest assessment, and it is spot on. It is very simple to draw a conclusion that this LSU team will be improved.

I can see your knowledge of sec football is very simple and revolves solely around espn pre season rankings. Go Tigers.

The 6-7 Ohio State team lost by:
3 to Michigan State (finished #10 at 11-3)
7 to Nebraska (finished #24 at 9-4)
3 in OT to Purdue (finished unranked at 7-6)
6 to Penn State (finished unranked at 9-4)
6 to Michigan (finished #9 at 11-2)
7 to Florida (finished unranked at 7-6)

Their only loss to a team that didn't finish above .500 was an 18 point loss to Miami (finished unranked at 6-6). That was their only loss by more than 7 points.

[quote]and that was with a post season ban in place.

They played Florida in the Gator bowl in Meyer's first year.

Compare that to LSU's season last year. LSU lost by:
11 to UCLA (finished unranked at 8-4)
5 to Auburn (finished unranked at 6-7)
21 to Kentucky (finished #15 at 10-3)
14 to Ole Miss (finished #11 at 10-3)
6 to Bama (finished #2 at 13-2)
3 to Arkansas (finished #21 at 9-4)
22 to Kansas State (finished unranked at 8-5)

LSU had one loss to a sub .500 team and 3 losses by 14 or more points. I think that Ohio State wasn't as down as their record might have suggested.

That's always what jackassnola sounds like when he talks about LSU.
