“The Grove” does have connotations of something more than the “ parking lot” or the “ empty space” which is what all the other universities have tailgating in …

All universities have tail gating and a major tail gating headquarters..so that aspect is a given everywhere

So if “ the grove “ is an empty field why is it hyped up???

To compare to OU...

The Grove (and circle) are like the ovals at OU. Except it is a way bigger space, with way more and taller trees and no Boyd or Lindsey street providing constant noise.

For football games if you can imagine the south oval at OU being wall to wall tents for tailgating then it would be similar. However, OU won't do that because they work too hard on their lawns and they don't want them damaged.

Also, 'Ole Miss doesn't have anything like campus corner because the bars and retail are downtown on the square (about a mile distant). So the Grove is all there really is by the stadium. And that of course strengthens the tailgating.
