The saltiness of the OU fans toward Riley is something. He went from best coach ever to being terrible by leaving for a better job.

I’ll tackle this comment.

A majority of fans were ready for a change. Bob had lots of respect so when he picked Riley of course fans got behind that.

But fans want to see actions to win a title so they were happy yet cautious. Most fans on posting boards said his first action should be firing Mike Stoops. He didn’t, and we had many discussions if our Baker led offense was good enough to overcome our shitty defense. Fans didn’t want to waste a title year waiting for Mike to be gone. The fear was keeping Mike would cost us a title.

Fast forward to the Rose Bowl playoffs vs Georgia. OU was up 31-14 having scored with 6 secs before half. Riley decided to squib kick and presto, he gave up a FG right at the half in a game that went OT. Then he went into a shell prevent type offense and over the 3rd qtr GA scored and took lead early in 4th. Game went OT and in 2nd OT instead of going for TD Riley went for FG (chicken shite call based on our D not stopping GA). We missed the FG. We lost the game.

Afterwards fans clamored for Mike to be fired and yet Riley still kept him another year and then finally fired him.

That first team was great enough to win a title except D, and even then they almost overcame it. Any DC coukd have made enough difference to win with the super offense we had. But every year afterwards the results got worse and worse and last year we finished 3rd in conference after Riley was already checked out. There was decline each year Riley was HC.

Another note, Riley never developed any HS QB. He feasted off transfers (Baker/Kyler/ Jalen). Spencer was his HS pick and look what Riley did with him.

You likely had someone like Eraser here talking smack how great Riley was but the fans on OU boards were talking about Riley ever since that blown GA game.

On top of performance he’s a liar. He stated he made the decision to leave OU in less than 12 hours but an article from Cali said he was negotiating since Sep. He took half the staff with him. He left in the early morning darkness. He was a snake.

Of course, fans root for their school and we had talent to win so in that regard fans rooted for OU during his tenure. But in real life discussions on posting boards a huge percentage of fans were discouraged that given 3 stud transfer qbs he still couldn’t get to title game. He alienated quite a few former players. There was a lot going in behind the scenes. Many weren’t happy with direction of program.

Anyways, after fans learned that he was working with uscw for most of last season then the every game struggles made more sense as fans put 2+2 together based on what happened on the field. And then the playcalling we all griped about during the season all made sense. And Spencer Rattler was scapegoated. I truly am disgusted what Riley did to that kid. He treated him like garbage.

Thats why I’m curious to see how Spencer does this year. He got a raw deal and yet never lost a game last season. By end of year Caleb was exposed. Caleb throws up too many 50/50 balls and 3 big plays in Tx game were just that. If 2 of 3 don’t happen Tx wins. But wrs made splash catches and that was it for Spencer. Rattler didn’t deserve to be benched for the season and thats on Riley.

I could go on and list other tidbits but won’t. Spencer put his trust in Riley because he was the suposed qb guru. And Riley screwed him over. Thats why I want to see Spencer do well. I really do hope he can get past what Riley did and have a great season. No kid deserves what Riley did to him.
