You said UGA was consensus #1 in 1942, then you provided a link that shows Ohio State was the #1 team in that year as judged by both the leading polls, AP and Coaches poll.

I was also distracted by the fact that Georgia's coach was named Wally Butts.

Ohio St wasn't selected by the coaches poll in 1942 as there was NO coaches poll until the UPI came along in 1951. The AP came along in 1936.

What is meant by "consensus" is the majority of NCAA-recognized pollsters voting for a particular team. The majority of pollsters selected UGA in 1942. Both UGA & OSU rightfully claim 1942. Wisconsin also has the right to claim 1942 if they want as they were selected national champions by one NCAA-recognized poll.
