There was a thread on this game a few weeks ago. My question was why does UGA do this when they only get half the tickets in a stadium smaller than in Athens (it became much easier to get home Iron Bowl tix when the game moved to the campuses). The gist of the thread was that the UGA people like the trip, plan around it, and don't want it to be home and home. JP has at least a theoretical point but if Kirby doesn't care then why should anyone else?

Most UGA fans want to keep it in Jax -- including ME! I'm just stating the facts surrounding the rivalry in terms of Jax not being a neutral site due to a predominate Gator fanbase there and its close proximity to the UF campus, etc. It's NOT neutral. However, we're not complaining, at least not enough to make UGA switch locations -- yet.

I've always heard that the main reason the game is in Jax from a Georgia perspective is that the most loyal (and some say largest) sector of the Dawg fanbase is in South Georgia, and this game is for them. Jax is closer for a lot of them, especially in southeast Georgia, than Athens is. Also, in late October, more times than not, the weather is still fine for hitting the beaches on the Golden Iles and NE Fla. I've heard that people that own houses and condos on St. Simons and Sea Islands can pay for about 9 mortgage payments during Georgia-Florida week alone. The Cocktail Party ain't going no where.

At one time the largest UGA alum association chapter outside the state of Georgia was the Jacksonville chapter. Don't know if that's the case now, but it is something to take into consideration. Jax isn't just a Gator town by any means. Probably why the game is played there, to begin with.
