Neither is basketball nor football so are you suggesting we should hire a div 2 guy for either of those sports?
Where do you think these guys cut their teeth. Geez....they can either coach or not. It's really that damn simple. Now if he had not been a head coach I might agree and an assistant under Tanner was a no brainer at the time. I thought that was a good move. I thought we should have hired the Dallas Baptist coach after Chad was let go but Tanner went after Kingston instead. Div 1 coaching is no different when you have players and facilities to do it. Landon is doing it with less.....This.....getting a guy whos been there has never worked out with the exception of Spurrier and Staley......none of the rest have done anything...so try something different for a change. Shane is working out just fine.....

Landon is doing it with div 1 transfers not high school recruits. He has never had to recruit or deal with the media and other obligations like a SEC coach does. Shane has been a recruiter at South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia Tech and was even asst head coach with the Sooners so Shane has been through the recruiting fire and is well seasoned in that aspect. You're advocating for a guy that has absolutely zero experience in any of that. Chad and now Kingston have allowed this program to fall off a cliff we can not take a chance on a possibility we have to go get a top tier coach to get us back where we were.

If it were only about coaching during a game but it's all the other things that a Division 1 power 5 coach has to deal with and in that regard Powell has zero experience.
