Barry Alvarez retired but he was still the head coach even if Bert was by name. He was a Jeff Long hire who himself was fired here and at Kansas. I wanted Mike Gundy which I felt his personality and offense would be a better fit at Arkansas.

I'm going way back here but the all time champion for this thread is Gerry Faust at Notre Dame.

That dude came in as a HS coach but he had more hype than just about any new coach ever. They won his first game big over LSU and people were talking dynasty. But that was pretty much the high point of his career. Got drilled in his second game and they were never better than a .500 team during his tenure.
