I was in Fayetteville not long after Bert was hired. I thought it was a homerun. But having a few beers at Mickey Finns one evening and sat next to a Wisconsin fan in town. He told me he expected Bert to wash out quickly. Just a meat head who’s alcoholism would catch up to him at Arkansas. Damn if he wasn’t right.

Barry Alvarez retired but he was still the head coach even if Bert was by name. He was a Jeff Long hire who himself was fired here and at Kansas. I wanted Mike Gundy which I felt his personality and offense would be a better fit at Arkansas.
