Where's all this coming from?

Is it because Mulkey left Baylor for LSU last year? Totally different circumstances with that move.

Like somebody else said, 'power conference' doesn't matter with men's basketball. As long as Kansas is there, the Big 12 has an anchor to the NCAA.

Wouldn't say that it doesn't matter especially when you start seeing more and more separation in terms of revenue from the power conferences.Sure, you can have the occasional Gonzaga and Butler but at some point the finances of the bigger schools are going to be a bigger selling point than it use to be.
