It’s a fine on-campus venue for WBB and Gymnastics and other non-sporting events that require ample indoor seating. But for what Mens basketball has become nationally, they could build a 9-10k seater as a part of the Classic Center downtown and pack the thing out consistently with its proximity to bars before and after games, alone

I lived in downtown Athens for a few months for work in 2020/2021 and an arena in downtown would be really cool. I love how all the bars are right there in one area. I don't know where there is enough space in downtown though for an arena and parking?

There is ample space behind the Classic Center (Thomas St) downtown moving toward the river. The Classic Center has toyed with building a 10k arena or amphitheater (or both) in that area for a few years now though I don’t know to what end of at all UGA has been involved in discussions for using those potential spaces. I know a minor league hockey team has been brought up a few times as the primary occupant for an arena.
